I guess I never quite understood comparing ONE game to THREE with all of the ME:A hate. The graphical infidelity and shoddy face models, sure. But they should've had time to build a narrative and I thought the breadcrumbs they were laying had me wanting more. To me, the character development was on par with ME1, the story was a little lacking due to an antagonist that paled in comparison to Saren RE: Motivations and whatnot, but even then you had underlying things that I believe would've been in line with the overarching baddies (being vague for the sake of Mark should he decide to play them).
I think they did well to set the foundation, but unfortunately the toxic fandom culture of today killed any momentum they could've had. I wanted to hear about where certain things that Mark probably hasn't experienced yet were going and now we'll never know. Plus, I thought gameplay, level design, and quest mechanics were WAYYYYY better than any of the other ME games. If they would've had another 6 months to even out the face issues I bet half of the hate wouldn't have even been a thing and we'd already have ME:A 2 in our hands today...instead we're getting a half-assed texture remake and a game that is probably 4 years out because of all of the previous narrative being thrown in the waste bin.
I wasn't meaning to compare Andromeda to the trilogy as a whole, more to each game in that trilogy. I felt the world building in the first game was far superior, the characters far stronger and more interesting. Though quite clunky gameplay wise.
I agree that the fan reaction was overblown. Especially to the graphical and technical issues. I didn't mean to come off as overly critical or demeaning of Andromeda or those that enjoyed it. I just have such a soft spot for the original and its sequels, I was a bit underwhelmed on the whole of the new one.

You're all good, I didn't mean for that message to come off as defensive or gripe-ridden if it was. Just sharing an opinion. In truth, I'd probably rank them as:
ME1
ME2
ME:A
ME3
ME2's Suicide Mission was probably the best single quest action in a video game up to that point, and set the bar way too high for ME3 to meet. All 4 were great games to me for their own reasons like you mentioned above...I just think ME:A had really unrealistic expectations based on the wait time for it and how much the nostalgia built from the previous games (even though they all had significant flaws). If ME:A wasn't an Ocarina of Time/TLoU/RDR/GTAV type game, it was always going to get crushed by the fanboys, and unfortunately it was just "good".

The last year I updated 2K8 was when SK was a senior...I really wanted to download the 17-18 season for Cincinnati basketball but updating a game from 2007 was probably not worth it
That was the last year it existed in 2014. That game is now worth just around $175 on eBay (I know because I constantly wonder if I should sell my copy or not).
Nice...I have a lot of old game systems / games stored away. I probably should sell it all on eBay but I have not taken the time required for that. OT but I did go ahead and sell on eBay all the Lego sets my older brother and I had from the late 70s / 80s / early 90s in space, castle and pirate and was shocked how in demand / value for those sets...didn't know Legos were the new gold standard.

Yeah, the vintage games market is goofy...most games aren't worth a thing, but you've got random one-offs like NCAA 14 or some random games in series that didn't get huge localization releases that have subsequently become more popular (Fire Emblem comes to mind for that).

I spent so many hours playing the NCAA games and keep a 360 on hand just to play NCAA 14 and College Hoops 2K8. Doubt I will ever buy a console again though, so unless they bring it to PC I will just have to keep playing '14. Probably fits as the two games I play the most outside of Crusader Kings and Europa came out 20 years ago (Eve:Online and WoW).

Was just last summer during the pandemic I whipped the 360 back out to play NCAA for a ridiculous amount of hours.. With updated rosters the only thing missing is the new stadium and the playoff format. The more I think about recruiting, the more fixes/updates I think they could implement. Recruiting players over several years, recruiting/holding after they've committed, transfers in/out, the balance of high risk recruiting/compliance, etc.
I'm glad to know that this could be EA Sports' poster child and they're not going to cut corners on the new release but I'm also worried because now more than ever is the DLC format game makers are going with which could make the game more expensive. I could see myself getting the new console for it though.

I loved recruiting but think it got a little tedious. I'd love to see more emphasis on the staff you bring in. An opportunity to pick out grad assistants so coaches can be promoted....allow you to target certain players and maybe direct focus, but not having to to choose call/visit.... every week. Limit what the head coach does personally, but have him more in charge of direction.

Oh, they're going to monetize the **** out of it with jersey packs and a CFB Ultimate Team type mode...that much is guaranteed. I just hope they don't go so far off the rails like they have with a game like FIFA to the point where they just actively do absolutely nothing to the other game modes for half decades at a time.

Its a shame that the micro transactions have taken over sports games. I don't really want to play ultimate team, I just want to have an in depth franchise/career mode. I loved how in College Hoops 2K8 you could start as a rookie coach and have to work your way up, or in NCAA you could start as a coordinator.
I play a ton of Out of the Park Baseball in online leagues and it is about the only game that scratches any sort of sports itch for me anymore. I can't get into the single player mode though.
