OT: EA Sports Bringing Back NCAA College Football

https://www.espn.com/college-football/st...e-football

Key Point: "For now, EA Sports is planning to move forward without rosters that include the names, images or likenesses of real college players. Current NCAA rules prohibit athletes from selling their NIL rights while in college." Sounds like they'll have the schools, stadiums, mascots, uniforms, etc. in the game though, so very similar to what had been produced.

Im guessing if they don't use the image and likenesses of players they'll probably just make generic teams and then allow the community to customize and roster share like they already do with NCAA 14. In fact, I'd prefer it that way.

Yeah, that's what it sounds like. As long as they have the licenses for teams, stadiums, bowls/CFP, conferences, etc and develop a strong Dynasty Mode...the community will do the rest anyways.

No joke, I did that sharp inhale gasp thing my wife does when she thinks she sees a deer 3 miles up the road but I'm totally about to hit it.

Beyond giddy for this. I've sporadically played '14 over the years, and was a frequent user of the team builder feature. So so hyped.

Not to totally derail, but the trailer for the Legendary Edition of the Mass Effect series dropped today too. I feel like I'm reliving my gaming glory days!

I still play 2014. It’s a perfect game. I hope the recruiting is the same because I really like how they improved it from prior versions.

Fans will have team specific rosters online within hours of the games release.

I'd be way more pumped about this if it wasn't just a marginal resolution compression and they actually improved things. I've played through the franchise a few times when they released on PC, and with mods, I'm worried this might actually be WORSE than the games I've played now. Would have loved for them to give them the FFVII Remake or Resident Evil 2 treatment instead of what this will end up being. All of the writeups I've seen from the hands-off demo today seems to be pretty lackluster.

Way more pumped to see if ME4 is what people think it could be based on theories from the trailer.

I don't know...I loved just spending a 60 minute call with a player having 5 minute conversations about campus over and over again lol

But seriously, there are so many more things they could do with it. If they actually let you build out a staff instead of just having faceless ghost characters as OC/DC that would be a wonderful start.

Totally fair. Though, I've read they are at least updating the combat game play of the first, so thats nice. But I never had a PC to spoil me, but I've looked up some of the improvements mods have made over the years and I can't say I'm not a little jealous.

Agreed, looking forward to what they'll do with 4.

Yeah, even bringing ME1 up to previous gen standards would be enough for me. That is by far my favorite of the trilogy. Unpopular opinion, but I actually had the most fun with ME:A (even though it isn't the best game of the series).

I went basically a decade after college playing few video games. Kept my PS2 and would throw in fifa or NCAA football now and then but that was about it. The only stretch where I played daily was bar prep time when I'd throw on some bar prep lectures i downloaded for free and listen to them while playing FIFA.

Bought a PS4 when I moved out to the burbs, though still really only played madden and fifa. The pandemic has been my excuse to get back into it. Bought and Played a lot of 2k in place of March Madness this past year. Bought Uncharted IV a Thief's End and loved it.

My latest foray has been Mass Effect: Andromeda. I know it hasn't been as well regarded as the others (which I haven't played), but I've enjoyed it so far.

That is honestly one of the best straight line narrative based video games ever made. Visually stunning and a phenomenal story. I loved the entire Uncharted series.

I'd say the gameplay of Andromeda is the best of the series. The story, characters, and writing pale in comparison to the original 3, in my opinion. I highly recommend playing the trilogy at some point. My personal favorite game series.

I also cosign the above Uncharted love. Great games!

Now they have you hooked. Buy the Uncharted collection and play them all. The Tomb Raiders are all similar and fun too. Recommend them as well. And the Last of Us games are incredible as well. If you like Super hero games, Spiderman is freaking awesome. I could go on and on with great PS4 games. Those should keep you busy for a long time.

I guess I never quite understood comparing ONE game to THREE with all of the ME:A hate. The graphical infidelity and shoddy face models, sure. But they should've had time to build a narrative and I thought the breadcrumbs they were laying had me wanting more. To me, the character development was on par with ME1, the story was a little lacking due to an antagonist that paled in comparison to Saren RE: Motivations and whatnot, but even then you had underlying things that I believe would've been in line with the overarching baddies (being vague for the sake of Mark should he decide to play them).

I think they did well to set the foundation, but unfortunately the toxic fandom culture of today killed any momentum they could've had. I wanted to hear about where certain things that Mark probably hasn't experienced yet were going and now we'll never know. Plus, I thought gameplay, level design, and quest mechanics were WAYYYYY better than any of the other ME games. If they would've had another 6 months to even out the face issues I bet half of the hate wouldn't have even been a thing and we'd already have ME:A 2 in our hands today...instead we're getting a half-assed texture remake and a game that is probably 4 years out because of all of the previous narrative being thrown in the waste bin. Alas, the nostalgia effect really carved things up...of course, BioWare has gone on to make an unmitigated disaster in Anthem, so if they can't get a win here soon we might not have any more ME or DA games to play.

Yep...PS4 really knocked it out of the park with their console exclusives this past generation. Mark's going to have one hell of a library of games to experience (don't forget God of War or Horizon: Zero Dawn (one of the better self-contained Sci-Fi stories I've experienced).

The last NCAA football game I had was the year Denard Robinson was on the cover for Xbox 360 (one of the last years I believe)...also had College Hoops 2K8. Both were great games where for years you could go online and download the current season rosters and play. The last year I updated 2K8 was when SK was a senior...I really wanted to download the 17-18 season for Cincinnati basketball but updating a game from 2007 was probably not worth it 03-lmfao

That was the last year it existed in 2014. That game is now worth just around $175 on eBay (I know because I constantly wonder if I should sell my copy or not).
