Darren Paige, EMU WR Coach added to staff. Will be interesting to see what position he fills. Could there be shuffling of staff into new roles?

Surprised it wasn't Daniels, but he seems like a solid add.

Holy ****...I played basketball against him in high school for four year. Hopefully his dad and uncle don't come to any games (deep inside joke that only one person on here might get) 03-lmfao.

If true, as reported, Fickell's "Ohio First" strategy continues to be reinforced by such recent hiring decisions. Amazingly, I don't think we've ever seen a coaching staff at UC so loaded with men from all corners of the state.

Given OSU's shift to a more national recruiting strategy I think CLF sees an opportunity to be the home state alternative to kids leaving Ohio to play at places like Louisville, Kentucky, IU, Purdue, or MSU. And in past years, each MAC school in OH or MI seemed to grab at least a couple of strong OH recruits, but never enough to constitute anywhere near a top ten team. Has Cincinnati now become the destination for those select few that in the past scattered to Toledo, Miami or Western MI?

He was a QB and DB in high school (and was a stud at a small school in Toledo, making All-state as both a QB and Safety and was named DPOY in D4) and played WR and DB in college and has only coached WRs in College...I'm a little worried about his ability to coach RBs, but we've got a guy who did for a few years as our QB/PGC so I'm assuming trade secrets will be picked up.

He supposedly was the Georgia recruiter for EMU despite not having spent any time down there professionally. A look at their recruit lists since he joined staff in early 2009 shows that they have pulled in a few guys from down there, though I'm assuming it's harder to recruit guys to Ypsilanti from Atlanta than it would be to pull Georgians to a city they've actually heard of.

Any background to why not Mike Daniels?

Reading the article he has also coached in HS in FL; so probably has good recruiting contacts there.

Again, first thing I'd be saying is did you see any of those guys in a NY6 bowl???

Mike Daniels may be a teacher at Princeton as well? If so, timing wise it might not be what he wants to do long term even if he was considered.

Yeah...if he wants to stay in Cincinnati long term, it probably wouldn't be the best for him personally, even if it likely would've been great for the program.

I was just expecting it would probably be him. He was mentioned on here prominently and even Chad mentioned him as an option. Was he considered? Did he turn it down?

Paige, Binns, Daniels and Pepe Pearson were the finalists for the job. Word is Paige crushed the interview process and pushed himself to the top of the list...

Major difference in jobs and lifestyle. Being an assistant college or professional coach even are long hours which in regular times often involved quite a bit of travel, etc with scouting. Not for everyone. High school guys come to you for the most part and it's city centric. Plenty of really good high school coaches who could make the jump but do not for those reasons.

Maybe CLF chose the most qualified guy that he thought would help his program most as opposed to choosing someone some fans preferred because he was a former UC player?

Kind of like choosing Tressel over Mike Mickens.

I like that thought process.

Agreed. I was not a fan of going after Tressel at first, but after watching his presser he seems fully engaged and prepared to take over the defense day 1 without any excuses for there being any drop off in execution. Also, happy to hear his relationships down here and throughout Ohio are established and strong for recruiting.

Position coach I think a HC can be a bit more lenient on, but if they all got their fair chance and CLF was most impressed with Paige then happy to hear someone stood out with many talented guys interviewing for the position.

Went to pull up his twitter account and the account has changed from @WRcoachPaige to @RBCoachPaige

He is younger than me and I never played against him while he was at Rossford, but it looks like he played at Miami with Ryne Robinson (Ryne was a class or two behind, but that kid was tough to tackle in space).

Ph I’m fine with that! I was just wondering the background information. If it’s something Mike was interested in or not. Sounds like he was so he may be with us down the road.
