And the fall continues. Now 0-4 after that 9-1 run. Huskies were down by 13 at the half. Lose 86-53.

NIU now 11-10 overall, 9-7 conference. Two games left.

Sept. 4 at Georgia Tech. Can we just skip to that?

Not yet. I need a few months away from NIU before the next loss.

WBB flat out QUIT today. Pathetic. This is on the staff pure and simple.

RE: WBB
One question (of many) I can't answer ... what did this team DO between the Feb. 13 win over Buffalo and the first loss to Kent State on Feb. 20? The loss came after the Feb. 17 Ohio game was postponed (and not rescheduled). A 4-day gap became a week-long gap ... and when they resumed, that first game vs. KSU was the end of the 9-1 run and the first of the 0-4 string we now have. What happened/did not happen during that extended gap?

I think that, unfortunately, the team played over their heads during the win streak.

RE: WBB
Huskies up 55-45 with about 2:45 in the 3q over EMU. ESPN+ if you're interested. Despite 20 turnovers (ugh) Huskies have been looking like they did during the 9-1 run. Going 0-4 seems to have woken them up. Also, if it stays the way it is, they'll open the MACT against #1 seed Bowling Green. Huskies beat them twice during the regular season by 1 pt and 7 pts.

RE: WBB
NIU 63-48 to start Q4. Seen a lot this game ... 15-minute delay at the half to fix lighting ... 6-pt play by NIU (basket, foul, tech foul by EMU, with EMU player fouling out) ... EMU rolling the ball across half court to try to get the last play before end of Q3 (and not getting it ... then getting rebound, hit a three, foot on line, scored at 2). Koker on the bench with 3 fouls, 17 pts. Davis has 19 pts through 3Q, ties career high.

Starting the 4th, Castro ties career-high with 5th three.

RE: WBB
NIU is in the MACT, but ...

One more game vs. CMU on Saturday (noon, ESPN3), then the MACT in Cleveland starting March 10. This last game is important because with the other games this Saturday, some shuffling could take place in the 5-6-7 seeds and dictate who NIU's opponent is in that all-important first game in the MACT.

For example, if NIU beats CMU and Akron beats Kent State, NIU might move up to #5. If NIU loses and Ball State beats WMU, NIU could drop to #7. There are a bunch of other scenarios, one of which can put NIU at #4 ... but all of it just proves how much that 0-4 slump hurt the Huskies before Wednesday's win.

Here are the March 6 games (with current seeds):
#4 Buffalo @ #1 BGSU (1 p.m. (ESPN+)
#6 NIU @ #2 CMU (noon, ESPN3)
#12 Miami-Ohio @ #3 Ohio (noon, ESPN+)
#11 Akron @ #5 Kent State (1 p.m., ESPN+)
#10 Western Michigan @ #7 Ball State (noon, ESPN3)
#8 EMU @ #9 Toledo (1 p.m., ESPN+)

Mathematically (conference w-l %), Toledo, Akron, WMU and Miami-Ohio cannot get to Cleveland ... unless someone can't play for Covid-19 reasons. Then it's the 9th seed that gets in (currently Toledo). But they can mess up the seeds and still have an effect ... under the coronavirus-impacted MACT, there are no first-round campus games.

(Per usual, please correct anything for others.)

RE: WBB
Loss @ CMU 74-68; NIU had a 10-pt lead at the half. Chelby Koker 28 pts, Janae Poisson 12; everybody else single #s. Turnovers not to bad (14) but CMU got 21 pts that way (NIU 4 pts off 11 by CMU). CMU 13-2 on fastbreak pts. CMU just slightly better shooting overall.

Finished season headed into MACT with 10-8 conference, 12-11 overall record. On to the MACT (starts March 10).

Went from the penthouse to the outhouse in 17 days.

Of note Coker had 24 in the 2nd half. NIU led by 19 at one point in first half.
One and done in conference tourney.
