Transfer portal is creating BYU athletic programs everywhere
The football transfer rules are crazy. I'm sure he's not the only example but look at someone like Bradrick Shaw of California. He's 23 (will be 24 in March) and will be entering his 7th year of college football next year as another graduate transfer.

He graduated high school in 2015 (Hoover, AL) and then went to Wisconsin (redshirted a year, played some as a redshirt freshman and sophomore in 2016-17, and then was hurt in 2018, and then played some more as a 5th year senior (junior) in 2019). He then transferred to Cal as a grad transfer and played a tiny bit more this past season.

Now he's transferring again for a second year as a grad transfer.

Don't get me wrong, I guess I'd be excited if Rice got him in 2021. But all of these 23-24 year old college players are nuts. I'm sure there are some players older than that too.

I feel bad for HS seniors as scholarship opportunities have become fewer and harder to come by in the Covid era.

Nah. The transfer rules in Baseball, FB, MBB, WBB, Ice Hockey were crazy because they were incongruent with the other NCAA-sponsored sports. The NCAA membership (aka the schools themselves) decided to "pause the clock on eligibility" this year, hence the potential for older players across all sports, if a scholarship is available to them.

The NCAA giving those sports a blanket waiver similar to all other sports is what is really increasing those in the portal.

There's going to be a lot of FBS talent transferring to FCS schools this year.

It will be interesting if it leads to more upsets in the next couple of years.
