Hawks v. Hofstra
Teams have figured out the blueprint to beat us play zone and pound it in the paint. We will win a few because we can shoot it, we just cant seem to do it consistently.

Interesting to see Shy go from”starting workouts this week” to dressing for today. What gives there?

17 assists is encouraging. Without Sims that # needs to stay high every game.

RE: Hawks v. Hofstra
It was the 92nd time from 2010-2011 to now that a team had at least 17 assists and 5 or fewer turnovers in a loss.

Dodd played 2 minutes, and your starters played 180. Mike said you had a bad ending because you got tired.

Typing about players one of you mentioned, Zion Bethea debuted. Omar Silverio played in all 7 nonconference games. He now averages 6.4 points, albeit he won't finish the season with three-fourths of the games in order to qualify. He transferred to Hofstra after one season and led Hofstra's bench with 3.1 points as a sophomore last season. His 17 points were 4 above his previous career-high. Kvonn Cramer tied his career-high with 16. Isaac Kante scored 18, and Jalen Ray scored 17. In addition to Coburn not playing, point guard Cale Burgess shot field goals 0-7 and free throws 1-4, albeit he had 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Those four guys combined to score 68 and shoot field goals 27/39 = .692. Both teams shot twos much better than threes, and you had a higher percent of your attempts be threes. All of Gadsden's attempts were threes.

Hofstra got 29 points from freshmen today, with 16 by Cramer, 7 by David Green (who entered shooting poorly but didn't miss today), and 6 by Vukasin Masic (who started). At that pace, Hofstra would get more points from freshmen in two games than in the previous two seasons. Hofstra has 212 points from freshmen, which is 18.6 percent. Hofstra had 41 points by freshmen last season and 10 two seasons ago. Of Hofstra's four freshmen last season, one is a walk-on who hasn't played this season, and two transferred. Burgess is Hofstra's only sophomore to play this season.

Coburn will not play tomorrow. I wonder if Hofstra will start Silverio over Masic. Silverio's only career start was once last season when Ray was injured, albeit Hofstra got desperate and brought Ray in late in that game. Hofstra has started seven players, which is the same amount as last season, and Silverio could make eight. Forward Stafford Trueheart could start for Senior Day, but with all winter athletes getting another season of eligibility, there's no way of knowing who will leave and who will play as a graduate student. Two of Hofstra's three seniors, Coburn and Trueheart, already had redshirt seasons, so to play next season they will have to spend six seasons in school.

Jake is catching the ball flat footed so he’s off balance. He’s a terrific shooter if he can clean that up.

RE: Hawks v. Hofstra
Kante made a season-high 8 field goals. It was the third time in his career that he made at least 8 field goals, and one of the previous two was against non-Division I New York Tech. Hofstra doesn't usually have two guys who get as high a percentage of their points near the basket as Kante and Cramer do.

http://stats.statbroadcast.com/statmonitr/?id=319123 will have statistics. Right now it has the rosters, and Sims isn't listed. Normally injured players are listed. For Hofstra it lists Shawndarius Cowart, a JUCO point guard who left after three games. Hofstra couldn't have expected Burgess (who hardly played as a freshman and averaged 0.6 assists) and Ray (who averaged 1.4 assists in his first three seasons) to get as many assists as they do.

RE: Hawks v. Hofstra
Fun fact of the day: Despite playing limited minutes, Dodd is 9th in the CAA in blocks per game (0.7).

Despite our size deficiency, the Seahawks are 2nd in the CAA in blocks per contest (3.3), only trailing Delaware (3.5).

We’re also 5th in Offensive Rebounds.

Siddle had a really good game plan to score against the zone. What we were missing were picks outside to get looks from three in rhythm. Pridgen was also far more effective in the middle of the zone than Okauru, but Siddle took Pridgen out of the middle late in the second half in favor of Okauru for some reason.

If Boggs isn't hitting outside, I can see Siddle going with Bowen, and sliding Boggs into the three spot. Boggs works best at the five when we face m-m defense, because he can force the opponents five to cover him outside the paint Against a zone, it doesn't matter. Bowen was really good against the zone and rebounding yesterday.

Same starters as yesterday for both teams.

Okauru, Gadsden, Harvey, Pridgen, Boggs for the Hawks.

Boggs and Harvey have got to step it up on offense if we are going to win games going forward. Will be paying attention to how aggressive they are.

Boggs already with more points today (5) than he scored all of yesterday (4). Great to see that corner 3 hit.

We are not looking for the back of the zone at all. Boggs was wide open and Gadsden never even looked. Bowen, Boggs and Pridgen at them up inside yesterday.

RE: Hawks v. Hofstra
We are not attacking the zone the same way we did yesterday. Pridgen is at the top of the key instead of setting up in the middle for some reason. We've taken 11 shots like Hofstra, but only hit 4 to their 9. They also have 4 ft attempts to our 0. We have got to go inside out again.
