Beto O’Rourke Wants To Run For Governor Of Texas…
Quote:Former Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-Texas) said this week he is considering a 2022 gubernatorial run, setting up a potential challenge against incumbent Texas Gov. Greg Abbott ®.

"It's something I'm going to think about," O'Rourke told Buzz Adams on Texas radio station KLAQ on Monday.

O'Rourke went on to hit Abbott's handling of the coronavirus pandemic, accusing him of having a "complete indifference" to steps local leaders are trying to take to save lives amid the public health crisis.

"This state has suffered perhaps more than any other in the midst of this pandemic, in the midst of the worst recession since the Great Depression. And it is particularly galling to you and to me and everyone who is listening that El Paso in one of the hardest-hit states was, if not is, the hardest-hit city," O'Rourke said.

"I want to make sure that we have someone in the highest office in our state to make sure that all of us are OK," he said. "Whether I'm a candidate for governor or I support someone who's a candidate for governor, I want to make sure that we have excellence in leadership and that excellence goes to every single part of the state, including ours."

The Hill has reached out to Abbott's team for comment.

O'Rourke came within less than 3 points of defeating Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in the state's 2018 Senate race, catapulting him onto the national political scene. O'Rourke then pursued a presidential bid but dropped out of the Democratic primary in late 2019.

Despite his two recent unsuccessful campaigns, O'Rourke is widely seen as a figure that could ultimately turn Texas Democratic.

The sort of people who voted for Biden don’t care.

Texas 2020 — official results:
Trump 52.06%
Biden 46.48%

That’s not *Quite* close enough to be cheatable, but.... almost.

They refused to purchase dominion machines in Texas, so no easy way to cause the ballots to fail to scan which sends them to adjudication where a new ballot is created and the old ballot destroyed like Mr Integrity's proven example in Antrim County.

If Texas has no-reason-needed mail-in voting, it won’t matter whose voting machines are being used.

Let’s leave Biden out of this.

But since you mentioned it: Biden is a buffoon. He won. O’Rourke is a buffoon. He came close to winning in 2018. He might win in 2022.

Beta O'Buttcork's best shot at winning in 2022 will be if all the Commiefornians flooding the state because of oppressive politics are dumb enough to vote for the same thing they are running from.

But...wasn't he the guy that was gonna take away our guns? Whahappon?

Dumb Schiff is a total loser, he was a total loser as a councilman he's still a total loser. But, people in EP will vote for him just because he's from here. My SIL still has a decal with his name for us senate. I love her but she's just a dumb Neo-Comm by her thinking.

I'm a little surprised Texas doesn't have term limits for the prominent state positions. Abbott has been governor for 6 years and is looking to join Rick Perry as Texas' only 3-term governors.

I'd actually like to see Beto run for Lt. Governor just because no one likes Dan Patrick (Abbott is pretty popular). Lt. Governor isn't that big of an office in Texas but it would be interesting to see what would happen if Abbott was Governor and Beto was Lt. Governor.

I could see Beto beating Patrick (perhaps - it might depend on how the country is doing in another year or so). I don't think he can beat Abbott. As a Texas Democrat, we're probably better off if one of the Castro brothers runs instead.

Lots of wisdom in this thread...
Commifornia... Betta Buttcork... obligatory Dominion conspiracy...

The downward mental spiral within the Republican fringe has been disconcerting to witness. I can see why my wife’s company is acquiring every mental hospital in Texas they can get their hands on.03-lmfao

Uh, wrong. The power in Texas IS Lt. Governor. Governor has the bigger publicity, but Lt. Governor wields the power. So obviously Beto would want the higher profile position, not one that gets a lot done.

My impression for many years has been that, in Texas, the powers typically associated (in the other 49 states) with the office of “Governor” are essentially divided into half, between Gov. and Lt. Gov., and — at least on paper — neither are really more powerful than the other.

Is that a true description?
