Germans building coal burning plants
Because renewable power sources have been so unreliable, Germany has been forced to construct numerous new coal plants in an effort to replace the nuclear energy it has taken offline. In fact the country will build more coal-fired facilities this year than at any time in the past two decades – bringing an estimated 5,300 megawatts of new capacity online. Most of these facilities will burn lignite, too, which is strip-mined and emits nearly 30 percent more carbon dioxide than hard coal.

Can't wait for all those mandated electric cars to hit the road. Duke Energy over here is just salivating.

So, the Big Asss Fans and mirror farms aren't carrying their load?

Shocking.

Where's our "The world is going to electric" friend? Unless we can figure out how to harness thunderstorms and lightning bolts, that electric ain't gonna generate itself. Big, Beautiful, Clean Burning Black Coal.

I love flying over the middle of the country and seeing my beautiful big coal plants along the banks of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers! Same for the coal barges!

So they should be overly complicated, with ridiculous superfluous engineering and almost completed.

Actually closer to 8 years than 7.

In fact, here's what is happening in Germany.

By 2015, the growing share of renewable energy in the national electricity market (26% in 2014, up from 4% in 1990) and the government's mandated CO2 emission reduction targets (40% below 1990 levels by 2020; 80% below 1990 levels by 2050) have increasingly curtailed previous plans for new, expanded coal power capacity.

On 26 January 2019, a group of federal and state leaders as well as industry representatives, environmentalists, and scientists made an agreement to close all 84 coal plants in the country by 2038. The move is projected to cost €40 billion in compensation alone to closed businesses. Coal was used to generate almost 40% of the country's electricity in 2018 and is expected to be replaced by renewable energy and natural gas. 24 coal plants are planned to be closed by 2022 with all but 8 closed by 2030. The final date is expected to be assessed every 3 years.

I love how politicians say they're gonna accomplish things by a date 20 years in the future when no one remembers what they said and they aren't around anymore when it doesn't happen.

I’m no fan of coal. I am perfectly happy to let fracking take of with clean natural gas.

If we let the market do it’s thing. Coal would be out the door and natural gas would be taking over.e

In 2020:

Quote: China has 250 GW of coal-fired power under development - study

SHANGHAI, June 25 (Reuters) - China has nearly 250 gigawatts (GW) of coal-fired power now under development, more than the entire coal power capacity of the United States, a new study said on Thursday, casting doubt on the country’s commitments to cutting fossil fuel use.

They have another 50 GW of coal plants already added to that number for 2021.
