It was one of the most exciting first games of football last year. No doubt :D

Keep the game going - no need to stop it.
Clemson loves it :bang:

I think it should. It's one of the traditional old non-conf rivalries - like Tech and Auburn, F$U and Florida, Duke and Vandy...ok, maybe not like Duke and Vandy 03-lol .

Wake is turning it around though Vandy Dandy. They went 8-5 last year.

Thats true. Maybe if Duke keeps Navy on the schedule that will be the worst game of the year. I think we are a little better than the Middies.

I think the series should continue. There have been some classic games down through the years. Kevin Butler kicking that field goal remains one of my fondest football memories. 04-cheers

I realize I have yet to comment on this thread, but I wanted some other posters opinions before I finally revealed mine. Saving the best for last. 03-wink

I wouldn't mind playing Clemson on a semi-regular basis. I do want to play them more often than we have in the past, but I don't particularly want to play them every season either until they get really good again.
Let me explain what I mean by playing Clemson on semi-regular basis.
Let's say that UGa has OOC schedules made all the way out to 2010. My plan would call for us to play Clemson in odd years: i.e. 2005, 2007, & 2009. The reason I like this plan is that it would give us a good rivalry, and it would allow us to bring another rivalry on board, like FSU. Can you imagine us playing Clemson and FSU the same year, every season, in addition to SEC heavyweights Tennessee, UF (they won't be down for long), and Auburn (yes, they are a heavyweight)? This in addition to other teams that can trip us up like South Carolina and Kentucky.
To me, a rivalry with FSU would be a lot like the old UGa-Clemson rivalry when it was good. UGa-Clemson is still good, but it's not as well publicized like it was back in '80s. UGa-FSU would be the modern equivalent of the '80s UGa-Clemson series IMO. What's my fellow Dawgs opinion about this idea? I'm not advocating that we drop the Clemson series altogether; we just wouldn't be playing them every year.

Sounds like a plan to me. FSU vs. UGA could have the makings of a great rivalry. I just don't know if it'll ever happen.

Among all the major universities, Clemson is the closest proximity to Athens. Clemson and UGA go head to head on a lot of high calibre Georgia and South Carolina recruits. Georgia and Clemson used to be a long running and really heated rivalry (long, long time ago, back when I was in school).

Georgia has no such history with FSU.

With the expansion of the conference back in 1990, and 8 conference games, plus Tech. That only leaves 2 open spots in the schedule. I'd like to play Clemson, but that just isn't a possibility any more. When the schedule was expanded to 12 games for 2002 & 2003, Vince Dooley first thought was to schedule Clemson. I'd glad he did. But unfortunately, the way the numbers game works. I don't think we'll be playing Clemson or FSU as a regular season opponent for a quite some time. As a matter of fact, last years Sugar Bowl was the first meeting for Georgia and FSU.

I know, but from a talent standpoint that's two of the best teams (UGA and FSU) in the country. But as I said I just don't see it happening.

It wouldn't be such a problem (number of games) if we didn't have the darn, darn Cocktail party!! (neutral site game at Jax) That takes away an extra home game for us, and I suspect it's probably the reason that Vince isn't too keen on playing two OOC opponents home and away. DQ, Kentucky plays two relatively good games OOC, Louisville and Indiana, and they're in the SEC, just like us. However, unlike us, they don't have to play a neutral site game every year. BTW, this not only hurt us, but it hurts the Gators too, believe it or not, when it comes to OOC scheduling for them. The Miami game, like the Clemson game, was a result of the 12 game sched.
