Can't believe I'm actually offering up some WVB commentary, but this is noteworthy around these parts...

Technically, the thread doesn't indicate Men's or Women's Volleyball, so I'm just gonna leave this here...

That is a crazy long set. Congrats on the win over BYU.

Winning at BYU is tough. Volleyball draws good crowds there.

A 45-43 set is insane. Congrats to GCU.

Also thank you as BYU’s loss should move undefeated #2 Hawai‘i into the top slot.

VB does draw good crowds at BYU, but this game was at GCU. GCU tends to pack the gym for MVB as well since they are consistently ranked.

I think I must have seen a stock photo used in an article about the match because the photo showed BYU playing at home lol. And I was focused on the match scores more than the location. Definitely one for the ages.

RE: 2021 Volleyball
Today/Tomorrow:
Seattle @ NMSU is postponed
Tarleton @ Chicago St
CBU at UTRGV
UVU at Dixie St

The UVU and Dixie St should be the best of the games to watch for those who really do not care. Dixie has looked good, then not so good as well. UVU has a tough month of March, Dixie, NMSU and GCU with UTRGV thrown in there as well.

RE: 2021 Volleyball
Tarleton - Dixie 3-0
UVU - NMSU 3-2 NMSU long streak of WAC wins is over, 34 games. UVU was the last team to defeat NMSU, back in 2018! Congrats to UVU. They were down 0-2 and came back to win. NMSU looked like they had everything in hand at the end of the 2nd. Last set was tied 16-16, UVU had two successive blocks to win it.
Seattle - UTRGV 3-0
CBU-GCU 1-3

Same teams at it again today/tonight.

RE: 2021 Volleyball
Standings now:
NMSU 13-1 (13-1)
GCU 10-2 (10-2)
UVU 11-3 (11-4)
Dixie St 8-8 (9-8)
Tarleton 6-8 (10-11)
CBU 4-8 (5-8)
Seattle 2-10 (2-10)
UTRGV 2-10 (2-12)
Chicago 0-6 (0-6)

So one round of games left
NMSU @ Chicago St.
GCU @ UVU
CBU @ Seattle
UTRGV @ Tarleton

GCU vs UVU will be for the #2 and #3 seeds. Tarleton and Dixie have done well in their first season. I would not be surprised for a split with UVU and GCU. Unless something catastrophic happens NMSU will be the regular season conference champion. UVU would need to sweep GCU and NMSU be swept by Chicago St.

NMSU has already wrapped up the title. They are using the same covid formula as BB. NMSU are the champs and celebrated as such yesterday.

RE: 2021 Volleyball
RGV coach was 416-36 as a head coach when he started there. While his records at RGV aren't nearly as gaudy, they have been mostly good, and he seems to schedule up. I am familiar with him from this South Dakota days way back when.

I am hoping they get back in form because I feel they can be a highly successful sport for RGV.

Thanks Rob for all of the updates throughout the season. It is nice to see the Lopes in the upper bracket of the conference. For so many years we seemed to be fighting Chicago State for last place.
Also does anyone know why CBU is not playing in the tournament? How come they can play in men's and women's basketball, but not in women's VB?

I think the WAC exemption to allow transitioning schools to play in the WAC tourney was only for MBB and WBB.

That does seem to be the case. Just wondering why one sport seems to outrank other sports in this category. Personally, I'd love to see all the transitioning teams play in all tournaments. I know it was frustrating as a GCU fan to have to wait 4 years.

Yeah, it's weird. Maybe because BB is revenue producing? The more teams in WACVegas, the more potential to make money from fans.
