Why not have the ASUN schools where ASUN patches on the uniform and field but have the WAC run it with their logos on the broadcast and on their teams?

Im sure there is more to this but when it doesn't seem to be to hard once you remove measuring sticks and ego.

Both leagues want to give out awards, have their logo on the field and say the automatic bid is coming from their league...

This is all an exciting time to be the ASUN which has never had football or the WAC, which is bringing it back. At the end of the day, all that should matter is the automatic bid in some sense. While the champion(s) from the league should have a good shot at an at-large, they want something to play for.

Figure out what it's going to take to get an AQ, have award(s) for the players on your side of the alliance and put your darn logo on the field... it's probably all about who has a name on the AQ. Lame!

Leave the league from which The team that wins the conference and goes to the playoff have their name on the AQ. Seems simple enough.

Makes me think there is the possibility this may stretch on for more than one year and the conference name etc.. be applied to the teams from the other conference indefinitely.

That combination would be strong.

I like these schools together for the fbs move east west split. Still need a school or two though. Also
If uc ark wanted in a conference with the Texas schools that's what they would have done.

Not sure what you are talking about - this is more of a one-year deal.

Central Arkansas is "more at home" with the schools in the ASUN, some of whom they consider academic peers or were old friends from D2/Gulf South Conference days.

UCA really does not have interest in being in the WAC and certainly did not want to be in a Southland without the schools destined for the WAC.

I just think if they wanted to be in a fcs conference with the Southland Texas schools they would have went with them to the wac.
Geographically theyre as close to Texas as Alabama

Now if the wac and the asun are eyeballing fbs I believe it would be easier together as one conference than two.
Also whichever conference begins this under their name , if the needed schools are not added, the other conference might be left out.

The WAC will not have an issue. When Southern Utah joins, the league will be at seven schools in total in '22. UTRGV is likely to be an eighth in the next few years and presumably another D2 addition or an existing D1 will join the fray at some point.

Still waiting to have a better picture of the ASUN and what they will look like as they definitely need football school(s).

Yup

Right now the ASUN will have only 5 members in 2022-
Eastern Ky
Central Arkansas
Jacksonville State
North Alabama
Kennesaw State

They are definitely still in need of one more school to meet the AQ threshold and they really need two or more to maintain a viable option.
I see lots of names being tossed out there from the Missouri Valley and Ohio Valley as well as the Southland but we will just have to wait and see.

The ASUN says they will play football whether they have an AQ or not in 2022.

2021 may simply be a scheduling agreement between the five Texas schools in the WAC and the three new ASUN members. They all need 7 games and such an agreement would complete their schedules without either the Big South having to tear up their schedule for 2021.

The banner does seem to matter, otherwise this would have been done for convenience already.

I’ve seen no names from the Missouri Valley. No one’s leaving a geographically compact league ranked 11th in BB and 1st in FCS for the ASUN.

I haven’t watched ASUN expansion news as closely as I followed reports about the WAC but I have seen at least two Missouri Valley football Conference mentioned.

Western Illinois has been mentioned as a target for both the ASUN and the OVC. It’s worth noting that Western Illinois and several other schools play football in the MVFC and other sports elsewhere)
https://www.inforum.com/bison-media-zone...s-official

Southern Illinois has reportedly been approached as well but indicated they weren’t interested.

The name mentioned most often as a ASUN target is Austin Peay but again I don’t know how credible those reports are.

Soo....the latest on Twitter

The 2021 postseason eligible WAC schools -- ACU, Lamar, Sam Houston, SFA, -- will be joined by Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky and Jacksonville State for next season only. They will be known as the AQ7 as part of the WAC-ASUN Challenge.03-nutkick

I imagine Tarleton St will play the Texas 4, but not the others.

That would be perfect for all parties!

Dixie State already has SFA, Tarleton and Sam.

So for Sam to have Tarleton, Dixie, six AQ7 games, SE Missouri and Northern Arizona - would just need one game. Perhaps they can get a former Southland squad just to finish things off

Mannnnnn for Sam that’s a tough schedule. Especially if you include the other AQ7 schools. Nice to see it laced with FCS opponents. Should be an interesting fall. Especially if Shoemaker takes over at QB1.
