Jax has pretty similar travel.
Central Arkansas has greatly increased travel, but their conference was falling apart.
EKU fans are going to be interested in playing schools most of them have never heard of and where nobody they knows goes to school?
I wonder if they know something we don’t.
Based on the post announcement press conference the feed back from students and alumni was it was great to see schools with different names on the front of the jersey. EKU also has over 100,000 alumni in these states.
I would think their alumni are overwhelmingly in KY, TN and OH. Do you have data?
Just don't see them drawing many students from GA and FL. Too many reasonably priced local options.
Do you think our administration is lying? This was specifically said in the 1pm press conference.
I didn't see their statement. You didn't say where you got the data.
Are they counting Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama which are already in the OVC?

It may have been overlooked but ASUN commish Gumbart stated a follow-up football centric press conference is scheduled for Feb. 23rd. He commented, "...we expect a lot of issues to be settled by then." SOURCE-- AL.com.
The EKU AD also said he would have a follow-up Q and A session Feb. 2nd about the ASUN move and that he was "very confident" another school could be added in time for the Fall 2021 football season.
Various reports state that additional members will be:
---Public universities
--- Football focused
--- Geographically compatible

They said nearly 100,000 in the footprint of the ASUN. There is a large contingent in Florida. Didn't specify current ASUN or new ASUN.

So that does include Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama. No indication of how many of those are in new states (VA, GA, FL)

The A10 route may not be the route I be looking at. ASUN would grab these two schools right away.
Kennesaw State
UNA
North Florida
JSU
EKU
UCA
ODU
Charlotte
NC A&T
Liberty
Two of these schools can be Youngstown State, Chattanooga, ETSU, W. Carolina, Tennessee State, APSU, Murray State,JMU, Delaware, SE Missouri State or Stony Brook.
Who are the best 3 Division 2 schools in football and basketball that are in the ASUN footprint?
Valdosta State and Lenoir-Rhyne are in the top 25 men's basketball right now.

Public and in footprint:
Every OVC school except Morehead State and Belmont has football and is public, and except Eastern Illinois is in footprint. We can rule out Tennessee State also as this would not likely be their preferred direction.
Austin Peay State
Murray State
Southeast Missouri State
Tennessee Tech
Tennessee Martin
In the Southern (IMO no chance for any of these):
Western Carolina
Tennessee Chattanooga
East Tennessee State

NCA&T may be a small possibility, but I dont think they would join the Big South and leave that quickly. It would also burn the big bridge that the ASUN and Big South have built.
The rest of the SWAC schools, I think they are happy with the setup they have, especially getting the Florida HBCUs. That's a cool conference to watch from a football fan point of view. So I dont see any of that happening.

I was think the same, but with Florida Gulf Coast. Never even heard of them are they DII or DIII? Have they had any football success?

A lot of reasons.
Exit fees
SoCon RPI, SoCon Tourney, SoCon TV deal
Institutional wants: UTC, ETSU, WCU are ever so slightly basketball schools more than FB

Again, with Chatty, I'm not saying they will, but you can throw the Exit fee out. If they have the slightest want to join the ASUN, the exit fee will be covered one way or another.
And what TV deal does the SoCon have?

ESPN/2/+ conference deal that was reupped in November through 2025 with 4200 conference games over all sports. ASUN has no TV deal for football yet. Big unknown to replace a solid known.
Also, UTC is big on basketball and wrestling. SoCon has much better level of basketball and actually has wrestling.

Also the amount of money and recruiting exposure lost by not playing in the SoCon Tourney would be a sizeable hit to the athletic department.

Y’all are pretty confident there is 0% chance of any SoCon school leaving for the ASUN.

Just like they were confident that no current D1 school would join the ASUN...
We know the ASUN has been courting Chatty, again, not saying they accept, but to say they dont, I cant.

They turned down sunbelt inquiries. Why would they now accept ASun inquiries which could be argued is an FCS version of the Sunbelt?
