NFL
Two EMU guys playing in conference championship games today. There's a chance that we could get POC v. Wylie in the Super Bowl.

Too bad O'Connor wasn't good enough for the Lions. What a joke of a franchise. Good luck to Pat.

Bob, POC is a reserve. Think almost exclusively special teams.

Glad for both. POC was one of my all time favorites. Both guys worked very hard to get this opportunity and never quit.

On a Super Bowl team...you do realize that the talent level is slightly different at Tampa Bay vs Detroit, right?

RE: NFL
Do you guys think anyone on our current roster has an NFL future? I think Beydoun could play in the right situation. I know he is small but he is a great route runner, fast, and has great hands. Some of our other guys who played that role (Sexton, Banham) got looks and Beydoun is better than those two (in my opinion). Maybe Sidy Sow, he has been a solid linemen since he started as a freshmen. We'll see about Boone, he was very impressive in his mini-debut this year.

That is about all I can think of. Anyone else?

Maybe Ryland if he can stay consistent like this year.

The NFL requires incredible skill sets. Maxx was a skinny fast kid who filled out his body at EMU and still maintained his scary speed. Wylie was a tight end, thus he was mobile and then bulked up to play tackle.

I agree with '93, the only player on our current roster with NFL potential is Ryland. Consistency can be learned, kicking 50+ yard field goals cannot. I think we all were upset with the missed chip shots but the guy was incredibly young, "choking" is to be expected.

Beydoun if he keeps improving could get a look as a returner or slot. Ryland will get some looks as well. Keep an eye out for Dooley on the O-line. He played and I think started as a Freshman and has started ever since. Very good size and will have a ton of experience. Too early to tell on RB's but Boone does look good. The best young RB I've seen there.

Julien and Sow if not the NFL definitely the CFL if they choose to go that route. Really hard to say since the season was only 6 games. Ask me the same question next year at this time and I think the tea leaves become clearer.

Wasn't Wylie an English recruit as well? I remember CC sticking by English players rather than run them off. I think CC didn't something English didn't do he coached them and made them better players and men.

Julien and Sow are definitely future CFL players if they want it.

I think Beydoun will get a real look from teams. Turan Rush might get some play too. He's inconsistent but I feel like he's double teamed on every snap.

The word in Ann Arbor was that English was a great assistant coach, in fact I was told that personally by a guy named Schembechler. Ron had skills, just not those needed by a head coach. He also viewed the EMU job solely as a stepping stone, remember the quote, "I'll be a winner again, whether its here or somewhere else".

Creighton by contrast, has been nothing but a head coach since 1996. EMU is the largest school he has ever coached at. I think if a P5 program backed up a Brinks truck to his home he would be gone, but I feel that he is prepared to retire in Ypsilanti if not. That motivation alone changes your coaching approach.

Okay, Ron English, EMU's example of the Peter Principle in action.

I tell everyone: Do NOT hire a coach because you think he can recruit or sell tickets or has connections with whatever.

A HC is a program manager, etc. etc.

C.C. is a genius in how he has managed his career. He moves up a notch in the coaching ladder, unpacks his bags (Ron Cooper never did) and does well. A number of years later repeat.

His move up the coaching ladder has been one step at a time. Maybe his next, and final, step up might be to say the AAC. I could see him at Cincy, Temple or even Navy (he has the persona for a service academy). Not the type to look at UofM, OSU, Alabama, etc. Or Army?

Spot on Steve! Absolutely nuttin' to contest.

Lloyd Carr really wanted to choose his successor just like Bo did, he just had two problems.

One, he decided to leave his program at the nadir unlike Schembechler. U-M realized this and pretty much disregarded anything Lloyd was spewing.

Two, because of his program neglect, he did not have a qualified assistant to take over either. U-M NEVER seriously considered Ron English or anyone on Carr's staff.

Hiring Lloyd to help find a football coach was fraught from the beginning for EMU.
