RE: KSU Wrestling 2020-2021
As we head into the semis, KSU is tied with CSU for 5th place. We trail Missouri, CMU, Rider, and Edinboro. There’s no way we will crack the top 3 and we will have our work cut out for us to hold our current position. Ferri went 1-1 plus a bye. He lost 7-0 to #22. Fenton went 1-1. Mutschler went 0-2 and Kamari is 2-0. He has #3 from Missouri next. Senn went 0-2. Limongi lost to #1 seed but won his next to stay alive at 1-1. McNally is 2-0 with a major and a pin. Bates is 0-1 with a bye. McCracken is 0-1 with a bye, as is Clover. Gotta grind for points in the consolation rounds. McCracken loss was surprising.

RE: KSU Wrestling 2020-2021
KSU Wrestling in 7th out of 14 teams, after Day 1

Mutschler - 0 & 2
Senz - 0 & 2
No surprise on those 2.

- Bates - 0 & 2 as the 8 seed, not sure what happened? Didn’t get to watch either match
- McCracken - 0 & 2 as the 3 seed, I watched his 1st match, he got reversed late and then put on his back, he looked lost instead of focused to close out the match....the loss to the Ohio U guy in the 1st match was tough to watch. Ben Smith of CSU who McCracken has beaten many times is in the finals.
- Cover - 0 & 2 as the #10 seed, HWT division is tough, but thought he could pull out a win in consolation
- Limongi - 1-2, was able to pull out a win against Edinboro guy again, not bad for his redshirt freshmen season

- Ferri - 1-1, saw his 2nd match, he kept getting a nose bleed
- Fenton - 2-1, saw his 2nd match, he should have won, but got caught in a weird position late in the 3rd period.
- Komara - 2-1, wrestler 2 good matches today start, looks in great shape and wrestles smart throughout.
-McNally, 3-0, never threatened and wrestled like the #1 seed in all matches.

Those 4 could score big points if they are able to win their matches tomorrow.

Ohio U is in 11th place, and Edinboro is 6th and CSU 5th. Coach Moore has 5 transfers in his starting 10 this season and that has really helped them.

Josh Moore has 3 going. This marks the first time since 2007 that Cleveland State has had three NCAA Qualifiers.

RE: KSU Wrestling 2020-2021
Both of our former assistant coaches (Moore - CSU and Hill - Edinboro) placed higher than KSU.

Ferri (125) is seeded 20th and has 13th seed from Nebraska.

Komara (149) is 29th and has the 4th seed from Oklahoma State.

McNally is the 6th seed and has the 27th. If he wins, he gets either #11 or #22. After 2 wins, he would most likely draw #3 from Penn State. He’s also on the side of the bracket with #2 seed. Not a bad draw; I’m optimistic!

McCracken made it in and is the #29 with a match against #4 from Okie State.

Sadly our ex-assistants don’t have much of a challenge placing higher than us. Even McNally would still be at EMU if they had kept their wrestling program alive. A few years ago only CMU could really challenged us and then it all fell apart. We produced Kilgore, Miller, etc. and now very little. I really didn’t see it coming.

RE: KSU Wrestling 2020-2021
The wheels came off when Andrassy and Moore had their falling out. Perhaps Andrassy will be retiring soon and Mitcheff can continue the turn around process.

I get that part but that says Andrassy really wasn’t the key guy. Or at least was no longer the key guy. Seems like the AD should have realized that. I might have just answered my own question.

RE: KSU Wrestling 2020-2021
We will see how it all plays out. Moore got (5) transfers that were (5) of his (10) starters this year, so it's not like he recruited them and got them to CSU as freshmen. With Andrassy losing Moore & Hill within a few years, it was bound to get choppy with recruiting.

Edinboro currently ranked #40, CSU ranked #53, & KSU ranked #56 and those moved around over the course of the season.

Hill was hired by Edinboro in May 2018 and Josh Moore became CSU's head coach in May 2018 (but was hired as assistant coach April 2016).

KSU has the entire starting lineup returning for next season, plus they have the stud recruit coming in off of a OH state finals appearance and good wrestlers who redshirted at 141lbs, 157lbs, & 165lbs this season, who will compete for a starting spot. Only question mark is HWT for next season. It will be interesting to see who is hired for the assistant coach opening.

I know that during this season, because of COVID-19, Coach had to separate the team into 2 groups, starters/backups and then the rest in terms of practices/training.

Andrassy obviously knows how to coach and develop wrestlers info coaches as evidenced by Moore, Hill, Kilgore, Bedelyon, and many others who are HS.

I’m looking forward to the day when you say that all 10 wrestlers from last year were replaced with recruits that beat them out. I know it’s not quite that bad but it’s been a tough few years.

I hear ya Burden. KSU with 4 NCAA championship qualifiers, CSU with 3, & Edinboro with 2. It will be interesting to see how each team does.

RE: KSU Wrestling 2020-2021
Andrassy and Moore, combined, elevated the program to a level that we hadn’t seen since the 80s. Jim knows how to put together a program but doesn’t have the wrestling pedigree himself like Moore does. Recruits want someone in the room that has the national / international pedigree. Mitcheff has a similar wrestling resume to Moore and he and Andrassy have started to turn the program around. Given the crazy world today, and the fact that Andrassy has been at KSU forever, my guess is he may retire in the next 5 years and Mitcheff would take over. I could be wrong and I haven’t heard anything along those lines - just speculation on my part. Andrassy has done a great job for decades.

Remember 33 out of about 80 wrestlers make the NCAA. That’s the equivalent of about 140- 150 teams making the basketball tournament. All NCAA sports are not created equal when it comes to NCAA qualification. It actually would be quite difficult to have only 0 or 1 qualifier. My guess is only McNally will score more than 1 point.
