KSU Wrestling 2020-2021
KSU Wrestling looks to have a better team this season than the last few years.

Starters
125lbs - Jake Ferri - Redshirt senior
133lbs - Brendon Fenton - Redshirt sophmore (good back up in Gould)
141lbs - Avry Mutschler - Redshirt freshmen
149lbs - Kody Komara - Redshirt Junior
157lbs - Ian Senz (Rs soph), Nick Colasurdo (Rs fresh),
165lbs - Mason Karpinski (Rs fresh) James Limongi (Rs fresh), Brady Chrisman (RS soph)
174lbs - Andrew McNally - Redshirt Senior
184lbs - Tyler Bates - Redshirt sophmore
197lbs - Colin McCracken - Redshirt Junior
HWT - Jacob Cover - Redshirt sophmore

157lbs, 165lbs, & HWT are still unsolved and many will continue to get a shot at securing the starting role.

All freshmen that came in have redshirted this season. Wersinger is 141lbs, Desilva is 157lbs/165lbs, Tidball 157lbs, Chrisman is 184lbs, Kipre is 197lbs, Clark is HWT, Garcia is HWT, & Maloney is HWT.

There are 5 wrestlers @ HWT on the roster currently, which is the most in a while.

Andrassy/staff have signed 2 wrestlers thus far to the recruiting class. -125lbs Mikey Lewarchick, Wadsworth HS (KSU wrestling alum, Clay Wenger, is head coach). The starter & backup @ 125lbs are both graduating/out of eligibility.
-165lbs Enrique Munguia, Elyria HS

RE: KSU Wrestling 2020-2021
McNally just had to forfeit his match against Clarion due to injury. Hope it isn’t severe. That would be a huge blow. McNally and McCracken are the only good wrestlers in the 5 heavier weights.

Meet vs. Missouri was cancelled due to not enough wrestlers. It wasn’t clear whether Missouri or Kent caused the cancellation (or maybe both).

RE: KSU Wrestling 2020-2021
I’m back! After covid, kidney stone surgeries, and technical difficulties, I’ve made my triumphant return! lol

Other than the NCAA tournament, nothing else matters. McNally has a legitimate shot to AA, but Ferri is a long shot. Other than our 2 seniors, that’s about it.

Gould and Fenton are good but one of them will have to move up or down for next season. Limongi is a 2x state champ so there’s hope for good things from him.

Munguia is a stud and Coach Mitcheff gets the credit for landing a nationally ranked recruit. Here’s a link:

Glad you’re back and hopefully feeling well. I don’t comment on this thread, but I do read it to see what’s happening in wrestling.

RE: KSU Wrestling 2020-2021
Thanks!

Munguia is ranked #5 in the country at 160. #1 at this weight is a St Ed wrestler (Paddy Gallagher) and Ohio State recruit. Derek Fields (Brunswick) is ranked #7 and a NC State recruit. That’s a crazy level of talent in NE Ohio. Add in the #1 at 152 (Victor Voinovich - Brecksville) who is a Oklahoma State recruit and it’s insane.

Welcome back Lambert58! Great to beat OU and beat them at their place by 12.

Last dual matches are this Friday @ noon @ the MACC vs NIU & Edinboro. NIU is ranked #3 in the MAC and Edinboro is down a few from that. Edinboro beat George Mason 22-20 & Buffalo 21-15 and lost to CMU 30-6. NIU is 6-3, having beaten SIU x 2, Ohio U, Clarion, Buffalo, and having lost to Northern Iowa, Missouri, & CMU. Will interesting to see if McNally returns to the lineup this Friday.

MAC Championships are at Rider (Lawrenceville NJ) on 02/26/21 & 02/27/21.

McNally is #6 - #8 in most wrestling publications and Ferri is #23-26 in most wrestling publications. Not sure if either will come back next year as this season doesnt count towards eligibility.

Yes, I am glad to see that Mitcheff and his Elyria ties helped get Munguia.

Berthold suffered a career ending injury, which is why Cover is starting @ HWT. There are 3 freshmen (Tanner Clark, Andy Garcia, & Alec Maloney) HWTs all redshirting, so we will see what happens next season at HWT.

All other freshmen are redshirting as well (Sony Kipre 197lbs, Blake Chrisman 184lbs, Trent Tidball 157lbs, Lucas Desilva 157lbs, Mason Wersinger 141lbs).

Next season:
125lbs will be Fenton or Gould or Mikey Lewarchick, unless Ferri returns

133lbs will be Fenton or Gould

141lbs will be a good battle between Mutschler & Wersinger

149lbs will be Komara

157lbs will be a good battle between Desilva & Tidball

165lbs will be Munguia, unless he redshirts a battle between Limongi & Chrisman

174lbs will be a good battle between Russell, Caniglia, & Torres

184lbs will be Bates

197lbs will be McCracken

HWT will be a battle between Cover, Clark, Garcia, & Maloney, possibly an additional if Andrassy/staff add a transfer or a true freshman

RE: KSU Wrestling 2020-2021
Here's the link to the story/info on tomorrow's matches vs NIU & Edinboro starting at noon EST: https://kentstatesports.com/news/2021/2/...r-day.aspx

Full schedule of matches (50 or so matches): https://kentstatesports.com/documents/20..._Robin.pdf

You can watch all of the matches on BoxCast (links are in the story above).

Good news @ 174lbs, Andrew McNally will be on the mat tomorrow and looks to be returning next year for KSU. Also, Jake Ferri looks to be returning next year for KSU as well, based on the story above that shows Joseph Andrassy, Tomas Gutierrez, & Raphael Rodriguez as the (3) seniors being recognized tomorrow for senior day.

Here are the list of MAC Wrestling schools (I had to look it up) that will compete @ the MAC Championships in 2 weeks:
Bloomsburg
Buffalo
Central Michigan
Clarion
Cleveland State
Edinboro
George Mason
Kent State
Lock Haven
Missouri
Northern Illinois
Ohio U
Rider
SIU-Edwardsville

Updated lineup for next season:
Next season:
125lbs Ferri returning, Mikey Lewarchick will redshirt

133lbs will be Fenton

141lbs will be a good battle between Mutschler, Gould, & Wersinger

149lbs will be Komara

157lbs will be a good battle between Desilva & Tidball

165lbs will be Munguia, unless he redshirts a battle between Limongi, Karpinski, & Chrisman

174lbs will be a good battle between Russell, Caniglia, & Torres for backup to McNally

184lbs will be Bates

197lbs will be McCracken

HWT will be a battle between Cover, Clark, Garcia, & Maloney, possibly an additional if Andrassy/staff add a transfer or a true freshman

That will be the deepest starting lineup for KSU Wrestling in a few years for sure. If they can figure out a solid starter @ 157, 165, & HWT out of the 3 or 4 options that they will have to choose from, they will have a solid starter @ every weight class.

I see that Coach Scott is no longer listed as a coach on the roster. Anyone hear what happened?

I didn’t hear anything. Of course this year we are lucky to even hear about matches being scheduled.

Indeed. It’s a crazy year. Rumor has it that Scott took the buy out and left KSU. I just assumed older employees were doing that. Oh well. Next! I imagine Mitcheff will be the HC when Andrassy retires in a few years.

Yes, the rankings are definitely better than the last few years. All 10 return next year and there will be a different starter @ 157lbs, lots of competition for 141lbs, & HWT, which have been the 3 biggest weaknesses for the last few years.

Yes, due to budget cuts from COVID-19 there were quite a few employees within KSU athletic departments. Here is the link to the article from the fall where it shows 5 assistant coaches were cut, with Scott being 1 of them. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.record-...3726176001

Anyone know what Ty Linder is doing these days? He did a great job at KSU, announcing baseball, wrestling, football, & basketball.

Actually a lot better. Last year we had a #1, #3, #7 and everybody else was #9 or lower.
