Those who think Comcast/NBC are closing up shop on sports have it all wrong. They’re going to be buying up sports content and load it up on Peacock. They’ve already moved Premier League games to Peacock and now have landed the WWE for streaming. They have already made it very clear they want to re-up with the NHL after their rights end this year.
NBC thought they had the Pac 12 rights locked up back in 2010, before ESPN and Fox partnered up for the rights. I’ll bet anyone a strawberry sundae that Comcast/NBC go hard after one of the available college rights deals coming up (Big Ten, Pac 12, Big 12) for NBC, USA and especially Peacock. Could the Pac 12 Network go out like the WWE Network and the content end up on Peacock? Not sure, maybe? Or Comcast could be the partner the Pac 12 Network needs for distribution?
Either way, Comcast is certainly building up sports content for Peacock.

I fully expect Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime to be at least attempting to buy tier 1 rights as well. Which, I think, will be a huge game changer in itself. These new outlets will likely be the #1 reason why the B12 and Pac 12 will get lucrative distribution deals. The game is changing and there's even more competition to the mix.
I don't know. the number the NFL got for their Amazon Prime game was extremely low. I think that's going to give colleges a lot of pause on going that route.
Those were simulcasts though. Exclusive rights are a different matter.
No it wasn't. SF/Arizona game week 16 was exclusive to Amazon Prime.

RE: Big TV news
I always thought NBCSN should've kept their deal w/ MLS. Then add some college athletics (football, hockey, basketball, etc) not just ND, & they'd surpass ESPN IMO. It seems like CBSSN & FS1 have been doing a better job w/ that tho. If the NHL could sign w/ one of those, they'd be in a good spot.
My guess NHL stays w/ them & tries to get more games on the local NBC affiliate instead of just Sundays

You're right, I must have been thinking about the playoff game.
Looking at the match-up though, I don't know if they were going to get a big audience for a game like that. Late season divisional match where neither team is heading to the playoffs. That and it appears the local FOX affiliates carried the game in-market. Most people who would have watched probably took that route.

Arizona was in serious contention- can't remember if they totally controlled their own destiny or if they needed just a bit of help.

Yes, Arizona was in contention. So serious that even after losing that game to the 49ers on Amazon Prime, they still controlled their destiny in their last game of the season. Had they beaten the Rams, they would have made the playoffs no matter what else happened.

No. they finished tied with the Bears and the Bears lost week 17 to the Packers. So didn't control the destiny but had a very good shot.
Week 17 clinching scenario....
Arizona clinches playoff berth with:
ARI win OR
ARI tie + CHI loss
Chicago had the advantage due to better record vs common opponents.

Bears being in the playoffs was an absolute joke. Bears-Saints was a mismatch no one wanted to see.

You say "no", but then post the scenario that shows I'm right, LOL. See the first part - "Arizona clinches playoff berth with ... ARI win OR ...".
So a win alone over the Rams would have clinched the playoff spot for the Cards, regardless of what the Bears did. The Bears also would have clinched with a win over Packers. The Cardinals and Bears both being in wasn't mutually exclusive.
What was mutually exclusive was the Rams, Cards, and Bears all getting in. Only two could, and that depended on how the games played out. But all three controlled their destiny, were in if they won. It's just that the Rams and Cardinals played each other, so only one of them could win.
In the end, the Rams won, clinching their spot, while the Cards and Bears both lost. The Bears then got the spot because of their tie-breaker over the Cards.
