Removing a date against Kennesaw State from the Tarleton State schedule for '21 per FBSchedules
Quote:KSU was previously scheduled to host Shorter on Sept. 4 and Tarleton State on Sept. 25, so those two contests have either been postponed to another season or canceled altogether.

RE: Future Football Schedules - Western Athletic Conference
Somewhat related, somewhat off-topic... the OVC which lost Jacksonville State and Eastern Kentucky to our AQ7 this coming year & to the ASUN for future years announced their scheduling.
Of note, "OVC Directors of Athletics agreed to schedule additional games against OVC opponents outside the structure of the Conference schedule as a way to play competitive games within the region."
One would have to think that the Southland will likely do something similar to make up for the holes in their schedule.
Quote:In 2021, OVC football-playing members will play six Conference games in a round-robin format as part of the official OVC schedule.
Furthermore, OVC Directors of Athletics agreed to schedule additional games against OVC opponents outside the structure of the Conference schedule as a way to play competitive games within the region. These designated matchups against OVC opponents will not count in the Conference standings. The dates of these matchups will be announced by the individual member schools as part of their full schedule release.
In developing this scheduling option, the Directors of Athletics worked together to ensure the unique scheduling needs of each program was addressed.

Before NMSU did the home and home's with Liberty a couple years ago, I had never seen 2 teams play twice in a season. It seems to be more common these days. Obviously the OVC has to do this out of necessity. NMSU has an upcoming home and home with Hawaii.

You are correct - I do not recall in-season home-and-homes until the last year or two. I do not think it is a bad thing and the OVC was wise for 'laying it out there' to begin with.
We have certainly seen some schools schedule conference foes as OOC games (two ACC schools did this recently, may have been UNC and Wake Forest; also seen it in the SWAC when they got rid of a full round robin).

In certain parts of the country, NAIA schools do it all the time. I haven't seen it at higher levels much.
There's really no reason not to do it if it works for both teams.
I'm glad we got Hawaii on the schedule several times in the coming years. I really couldn't be happier with our upcoming schedules. They are just about perfect. Of course another home game each year would help revenue, but we have some really good pay games.

Agreed playing home and home in the same year appears to be new, home and home scheduling has always around. Usually it was we will play you at home this year and go to your place next year. To get a home date against a bigger school maybe you set up a two games at their place and one at yours.

I would have preferred no sub FCS games but with all that has happened this year maybe the best Lamar could make fit. Just like all programs you need at least five home games.

I believe Lamar had Tarleton State in that season opening spot and have since shifted them to later in the year. The late changes and realignment are going to stink for scheduling this year with few exceptions. Central Arkansas added Texas Wesleyan the other day. Very curious to see the Southland schedules but I believe they are following the OVC lead and encouraging teams to play home and away with league schools if they have to

The difference in quality of opponent from week 1 to week 2 will be huge.
North American University opened in 2007. They have 800ish students. Their previous scheduled had included NJCAA schools, club teams up to West Texas A&M.
Week 2 will be against UTSA.

More impact of the late scheduling shifts is ACU adding a home game versus Louisiana College
Quote: The Abilene Christian Wildcats have added the Louisiana College Wildcats to their 2021 football schedule, according to their official athletics website.
Abilene Christian announced their fall 2021 football schedule earlier this year on Feb. 23, but they had one game that was unannounced.
That game has now been set and will feature the Louisiana College Wildcats visiting Wildcat Stadium in Abilene, Texas, on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021. The game will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.

Who ever thinks Lincoln is a "first year D2" is sadly, sadly mistaken. D2 what? Not NCAA. They aren't D2. They aren't even a D2 applicant. They aren't even NAIA, USCAA, or NCCAA. They are a school that just became accredited and has a few hundred students in their 2 undergrad majors lol. I guess it sells more tickets to say they are D2?
SFA would have been better off playing North American. At least they are in Texas. And they could just as easily be listed as a "first year D2" too.
Incidentally, whoever it was playing Louisiana College got them wrong too, listing them as a D3 school when they're NAIA. Serious lack of SID's when you can't get your own schedules right.

La College was NCAA d3 until fall 2020 when they switched to NAIA, making this a a more understandable error.
