I frankly think he is a better hire than the Auburn AD that all these guys were pretending they knew about (but for being Dungeon members). He has been massively successful in a resource-constrained environment. He should kill it raising money in Orlando and finishing off key facilities and upgrades.

I can see the similarities...

Danny added a lazy river
Terry added a waterfall to Ark State stadium

He even put LEDs in the waterfalls to make them light up in red when we score.

TMo is a great fundraiser, very outspoken and works hard. I think you're getting a good one. He had pretty much peaked here and needed a move to keep his career going. I get it.

RE: UCF AD Danny White to Tennessee
Our fans liked Mohajir and generally still do, but I think a fair segment of us felt that we had probably gotten as far as we can under him, and were ready for a change. Program has leveled out over last 3 years or so, and he's been questioned more than usual.

Strengths: He can raise money with the best of them, and understands how to build things that actually can make the Athletic Department money. Our Indoor practice facility, and Club level press box seating can both be rented out by private groups for events, and the Club Level seats generally have sold well.

He also cares genuinely about coaches and players. Players could talk to him at any point. Most former coaches rave about working with him.

Great with Media. He'll talk to anyone in the press, local or national and treat them the same.

Weakness: Terry can sometimes become too close to his coaches. There have been many questions about whether or not he lets his friendships get in the way of business decisions

After appearing early to be one that would be very open with fans (important in a small town) it felt to many of us that openess died away the minute he faced criticism. Early in his tenure, I once had a 20 minute conversation with him, and he didn't know me outside of the fact the he knew I posted online. By later in his tenure, it felt like the only people he listened too were people who donated.

His coaching hires have been rather meh. He whiffed on the basketball coach, and his Women's basketball hire was essentially a local product with little coaching experience, and not the national search he promised. Anderson and Harson turned out okay, but they weren't Malzahn/Freeze (Previous AD) Our fanbase is very happy with the Butch Jones hire, but nationally it didn't play as well.

Also, his Mouth can get him in trouble. There's rumors that a litany of CUSA schools refused to play us in football because he opened his mouth publicly in 2014 and proclaimed App and Georgia Southern were better than all the former Sun Belt members who left for CUSA, and trashed Middle and Western on their way out. Much of what he said came back to be the truth obviously, but it ruffled a lot of feathers at the time.

He did last week sign us to a football game with Arkansas for the first time in school history, which will probably end up as one of his lasting impacts if that game gets played more than once in the future.

i think Mohajir will work out well in Orlando - if he can raise cash in Jonesboro, he should do quite well in Orlando. solid hire.

Thanks for the info, I enjoyed reading it. UCF fans seem pretty happy across the board, not a world beater but seems like a solid hire.

Ive watched Mohajir's career pretty closely over his time at ArkySt. He was who I really wanted UH to hire when we ended up with Pez. The thing about Mohajir is he is really good with the press and I think you'll see him harness the power of the local media better than it has been used up to now. Thats why I wanted him in Houston. Everyone in Houston acts like they are harboring state secrets on the nations nuclear weapons program. I think thats a huge mistake. Invite the media into the tent and be the easy access story. More ink--more TV time. Thats always a good thing--especially when you compete with the pro sports franchises for the customers ticket dollar. You have to create a bigger media profile that creates real personal interest in the minds of the more casual college sports fans. I think UCF made a great hire.

I think you and I actually talked about this back when you guys hired, but that's Mohajir's style to a T. He does not keep secrets. Now part of that is simply living in a town the size of Jonesboro. We're not a large town, and we're a very religious town. Half the gossip here happens in church pews, and the larger churches compete to get whoever the school just recently hired to join with their family.

Because of that, its rather difficult to hide anything because someone is going to know, and they likely know someone, who knows that water cooler guy in your office. As a best example, the one thing that Moahjir kept secret this year was our Covid outbreaks. (Likely HIPPA reasons) Yet, 24 hours before we played Kansas State, it was common knowledge in Jonesboro that we had an outbreak on our hands, and within 24 hours after the Kansas State game, half the town seemed to be running with a rumor that a large number of players had contracted Covid, and Blake had it as well.

TM never fully came clean on how bad it was, but he got a pass there because not many in Jonesboro ever fully understood Covid. (We're approachig 1 in 7 confirmed infections here, though its gotten considerably better over the last month.)

Gotta say, turning a pool of water yellow is not as fancy a trick. Don’t think it gives off the same wow factor for UCF that it does A-State.

Unless it's literally a pool full of beer. That would definitely rank high on the wow-meter

(of course, way easier to just let nature take it's course in the pool. Or redirect the plumbing from the urinals)
