As a friend from Naperville who attended Marmion once told me...you aren't from Naperville and attending Marmion if you are someone who doesn't need a kick in the ass.

Why, because Benet is better?

Some people just like Marmion or had family members who where there and/or to Rosary.

Because the public schools (in Naperville) are better than the private schools in every way (if you want to debate wabonsee...fine.)

So the reason kids get sent to a “military” style catholic school is to get a kick in the pants.

Maybe. Or it may be because the parents want a catholic education which none of the Naperville schools will deliver.

I've taught kids who dreamed of going there. You all are acting like its Maury Povich and a scared straight program. Hell, there are a lot of kids from military backgrounds who plan on going into the military who attend Marmion. The ROTC program there is high quality.

There's a lot of reasons why kids go there. Sure, some parents may send their boys there for the structure, but that's absolutely not the majority.

It's a school with a pretty devout alumni base and often families are drawn to those.

Also, if a kid wants to play sports they have more opportunities at a school like Marmion as opposed to either 203 school or any of the 204 schools which are all massive. I mean, if a kid is pretty good at basketball and can play HS ball, he's got a much better shot at playing at Marmion than being one of the 12 best out of about 2,000 boys at Neuqua.

I've also known kids who went to Neuqua who hated it because there are too many kids there and wished they could have gone to a much smaller school.

Are you going to have some kids there who f'd up and got sent there? Sure. Same with Rosary. But that's far from any kind of sizable population there and nothing to make any kind of sweeping generalization upon.

You have some fine anecdotes. But so do we.

Does The subject of this thread seem like the type who needed a kick in the pants? Yes. Does he seem like the type who wanted a catholic education? Or a military education? If yes why didn’t he go to one of those colleges? If football was too easy he certainly would t run from trying to play at NNHS, NCHS, or NVHS.

So I stand by my anecdote. This dude seems like he is a little nuts.

Kramer says it was too easy.
I was hoping that Kramer gets what he is seeking and wish him well. Once a huskie...

From my perspective we will miss him stuffing the run like we missed the 2 who left last year.

Saying that, his statement that the MAC was too easy didn't match his statistics or the team's goals of winning a game (even if he graded well for his position).

Too late to change his story? Maybe not. I see he has a Twitter so conceivably he could get a new message out. Personally I'd go with a more humble approach but that's just me because I'm a bad, bad man. (Insert laugh track here)

RE: Kramer says it was too easy.
Lots of hate on a kid selling himself. Yes, I will agree it's a reach for him to say his time at NIU was too easy. But look at the facts, for what he did, he was among the nation's top ranked interior DL.

No one in here knows the reason he's leaving, other than what he said in this article. But again, he's trying to sell himself because he believes that he is ready for the next level. Just like any football player thinks they got an honest shot at the NFL, no matter how true or false that is.

With all this hate on Marmion, looking at their recent success, it appears they've had some quality people come out of that school. Not only did Kramer come from there, but the Glasgow brothers, Brad Chlidress and our very own Huskie legend Larry English. Who cares that a kid went there, instead of one of the top performing Naperville schools? Him and his family had their reasons, we can't assume he's some screw up who needed a kick in the ass. From what we can see, he is a kid who was a contributing member of the MAC Championship squad who probably already has his degree in hand.

Sucks he's leaving, as it sucks that anyone is leaving our great program. But as we've all come to realize, it's life. So wish him well, and may we all get behind the next monster who steps into that spot on the Huskie defense. No need to be bitter about anything.

PFF rankings have become increasingly insane. They want so bad for there to be an analytical element to football outside of the basics...but we are finding that there really isn’t a correlation to “advanced statistics.” At least as much as PFF wants there to be.

RE: Kramer says it was too easy.
Saying he was forced to go to Marmion for discipline is just tongue and cheek. It would be absurd to assume that. Almost as absurd as saying his time in the Mac was too easy. Say silly things, get silly responses.

No one said that. But to say he seems like the type is not off base at all. You may not like it - but you can’t say that he doesn’t seem the type based off...well...everything about him.

Wish him luck - hopefully he can find a challenge worthy of him.

Seems like the initial offers he thought would be there aren't there, and now he's waiting a bit. Hope it works out for him.

If you read PFF's explanation of how/what they rank you find out that it is kind of a joke. They are essentially evaluating if a player did "his job" on each play, while at the same time acknowledging that they often don't really know exactly what a player is supposed to do. So basically the only way to get a negative grade on a play is to get beaten so badly that it is blatantly obvious. On the flip side, the reward difference from a "not getting your ass kicked" 0 score, to a "best play they could possibly make" score of a +2. Also, all scores are determined by people that they hire and train to score "their way." So at the end of the day each play grade is someones opinion. There is no basis of fact involved at all. My take on it is they essentially have come up with a way to grade try hard, whether or not a guy sticks to his job or freelances, and the grey areas that don't accumulate any stats. A PFF ranking is essentially a dependability rating. Dependability is great, and it means something, but it should not be confused with guys who go out and make a significant impact on games.

I'm from Batavia, I have friends who went to Marmion, and a nephew who played football graduated from there last year. Marmion is not a reform school. It is not the kind of place kids who are in trouble get sent. Not to say that there aren't a few kids here and there that might end up there for that kind of reason, but it definitely not the norm. It is EXPENSIVE! It is a school for people who want to have their kids have a very specific kind of educational situation. Upper middle class, small class sizes, a lot of structure, a focus on Catholicism, and a strict curriculum. Also, as someone else mentioned above, it has an ROTC program that is tops in the Chicagoland area.

He's betting on himself. Let him do his thing and we will do ours. He was a solid player, and it appears he was nationally ranked. Let's hope this move pays off for him. It's whatever.

The wrestling match took place in Marmion's cafeteria where I attended my 50th reunion dinner. Note the crucifix in the background. I still cannot believe I attended an all boys high school but thank God NIU was coed.

I did it for a year in Hawaii. It was kind of nuts. Just a bunch of trouble making kids together.

Although, the school dances with the all girl's schools were wild.

If Jack Heflin gets drafted in the NFL will it say NIU next to his name? Didn't he graduate from NIU?
