RE: NFL 21 Offseason thread

Cleveland's defensive line will now be bookended by the 2017 #1 Pick Myles Garrett and the 2014 #1 Pick Jadeveon Clowney.

Dude, I'm all over it. One year deal, base contract $8M with incentives up to $10M. I'd take that contract all day long and twice on Sundays from the Browns side. GM Andrew Berry has just kicked butt the past two years. Fixed the offensive line last season and now adds some great pieces to the defense. They still have OBJ and their #1 pick in the draft. This team is legit AFC North contenders and poised to make a deep playoff run. Can't wait!

Looks like the Panthers will most likely be drafting a QB tomorrow.

LOL. We're all laughing at the 49ers, as we should, for trading 3 first-round picks to draft Mac Jones, but the Broncos might be even more obtuse. Even though Drew Lock is nowhere near adequate for a team that wants to make the playoffs, Denver goes cheap and gets Bridgewater out of the discount bin instead of trying to find a real solution at QB.

Wedge: but they only gave up a 6th rounder. That's a TERRIBLE return for a perfectly serviceable QB.

Lock is adequate, but in the AFC West, adequate is not good enough. The Chiefs have Mahomes, the Chargers have Herbert, and the Raiders have Carr. Bridgewater is also adequate and he comes at a good price, but the Broncos look like a team that is desperate at quarterback.

In the NFC West, the Seahawks have Wilson, the Cardinals have Murray, and now the the Rams have Stafford. The 49ers look like a team that thinks they just need a quarterback to win-it-all or at least the NFC West. Whoever they pick at No. 3, they better hope this guy is a star, because they will not have a first round pick in 2022 or 2023. What a price to pay to for Mac Jones or Trey Lance or Justin Fields.

Lock is adequate?

Quote:Since 2015, the Broncos have the worst Total QBR (45.2) in the NFL, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

That stat doesn't fit any definition of adequate.

Not so fast. They may still be undecided LOL...

Quote:ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday morning that the 49ers initially loved quarterback Mac Jones out of Alabama, but North Dakota State's Trey Lance later caught their eye. Even as we entered draft week, Schefter reported that the 49ers were not sure whom they were going to select with their top pick.

"As much as the 49ers love Mac Jones, and they do, I believe that the gap between Mac Jones and the other QBs like Trey Lance has been narrowed considerably," Schefter said on ESPN's "Get Up!" "I can tell you over the weekend they did not know who they were going to take."

This was a development that was reported earlier in the week, but just about seven hours after Schefter's comments on Lance "closing the gap" -- with just over 24 hours before the start of the 2021 NFL Draft -- he reported on "NFL Live" that the 49ers had finally decided on a player, but naturally were going to keep it close to the vest.

This is something that appears almost irresponsible by the 49ers franchise, but one has to wonder what caused the uncertainty? Was it Lynch and Kyle Shanahan falling out of love with Jones, or falling in love with Lance after conducting their "due diligence." Either way, it appears the 49ers finally have the player in mind they will select with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and all indications say it's either Jones or Lance.

Lock has only been there since 2019. He started 5 games in 2019 and 13 in 2020. In 2020, he lost starting wide receiver Courtland Sutton to an early season injury. Rookie wide receiver Jerry Jeudy had 12 drops during the season, five in a three point loss to the Chargers, including a sure TD in the end zone.

Lock is a young QB with 18 NFL starts. He has an NFL arm and he is athletic. He needs to cut down on the silly turnovers and he needs to get help from his teammates. Lock is not special like Mahomes and Herbert, and Carr is a better QB at this point. Because he is not special, he needs help around him and at least another season to develop. I think he is adequate, but in that division that may not be enough.

RE: NFL 21 Offseason thread

Can't remember seeing this much disfunction out of Green Bay... Kind of suprising coming off back-to-back 13-3 seasons and pretty much owning the AFC North for the last decade. Wonder if he's still pissed at them drafting a QB last year instead of giving him some receivers to throw to?

I also heard that the 49ers offered Green Bay this year's #3 overall pick, Jimmy G., some other picks and a few other unnamed players on the San Fran roster, all for Aaron Rodgers. The Packers promptly said no thanks!

RE: NFL 21 Offseason thread
The irony is the 49ers would be perfect for Rodgers and they want him. But the 3rd pick doesn't do much for Green Bay as they have their QB of the future and it's just be a position player. They would have wanted the 12th pick plus at least one more future firts round pick. But the 49ers traded them away.

Denver looks like they get Rodgers.

Now Mac Jones --whom nobody but Shanahan wants-- will not only be compared to Justin Fields and Trey Lance but also Aaron Rodgers.

OMG this is a disaster looming for the 49ers.

RE: NFL 21 Offseason thread
They went with Lance.

You know Fields makes sense for Atlanta. Well the y took the best player on the board Pitts. Can't fault that.

I think the truth will come out eventually that it was always between Lance and Fields. Shanahan had his QB guru John Beck work out both and he and Shanahan designed both of their 2nd pro days. Mac Jones was apparently a smokescreen to make it look like it wasn't a head up contest between the better athletes. Shanahan was impressed by Lance's high IQ (son of a coach and former CFL QB). Of course the 49ers (different regime under Mike Nolan) picked Alex Smith over Aaron Rodgers, who fell way down the draft, on the basis of higher IQ. (The 49ers had below average coaching and instability which probably would have ruined Rodgers too.) This article explains that.

... wow the Bengals "committed malpractice" in not drafting an OT, instead taking the best player on the board LSU WR Chase. (For the record, I'm a take the best player on the board who can be a pro bowler at his position over need in the 1st round. Later rounds you can adjust for need)
