RE: WBB vs Northeastern Jan 23/24 2021
Dukes lose by 8 77-69.

First time NE has hit 70 points this season. Horrible defensive effort by the Dukes in the second half, NE was driving to the basket almost at will. Dukes also shot very poorly again, missed a boatload of close in layups and short shots. Diouf got in foul trouble early and fouled out with 6 minutes to go, when she isn't in the game the Dukes lose a lot of their inside game.

Team still seems to be trying to figure itself out especially offensively. Aside from Kiki and Peyton, at this time, there doesn't seem to be any consistent scoring from the rest of the lineup.

Still a work in progress so we will see what we have towards the end of the season. My guess is that things will start to jell in the next few weeks and the team will be hitting its stride come CAA Tournament time. All the fits and starts and postponements can't be helping things, hard to find any consistency when games are called off. Never get in a good rhythm.

Still a disappointing loss today, should have cleaned NE's clock.

Go Dukes!!

Brian

Very disappointing loss. In a season that’s been turned on it’s head because of the pandemic it would be easy to make excuses, but something feels “off” with this team. Hope the good gals and coaches turn it around and start playing to their potential.

Agree that the team seems a bit off this season. I am sure Coach O and the staff will get things sorted out. Hopefully no additional postponements or cancellations will happen.

The word for the year has been inconsistency. I truly believe that the greater part of that has been due to the pandemic throwing things into such disarray. When you have a mostly young team it's hard to get any consistency with things in one week and out the other. The schedule is ridiculous too with the back-to-back games. I don't think those benefit anyone and I hope they don't continue into next year.

Sean might have been one of the best assistants in the country, but I am becoming less and less optimistic. We have trended downwards since Kenny left. Sean is coaching these games like its NBA 2K. Subbing 5 at a time, people in and out of the lineup, one day starting the next day DNP, etc. Agreed with O to P about inconsistency, but this is where I see it the most.

Positive side, this might be the most exciting freshman class in awhile. So much brought to the table. McDaniel reminds me very much of Kirby, except more advanced at a younger age. Hopefully she can be developed the same way Kirby was.

Go Dukes!

No doubt his team improves this year, and the next too based on the age. But the issue with me is the underachievement of his teams. Since he's been HC his teams have been the most talented in the CAA but have not played that way. He should be beating up on the CAA even with a young team.

After awhile, the excuses lose meaning. Every team in America is facing Covid. The men's teams has had the same disruptions. The youngest Men's team in the CAA are NU and JMU and playing great.

JMU's support, new arena, and Sean's recruiting are enough to have JMU a contending team every year. I'm just not sure his coaching will allow his team to be the dominant team in the conference.

Hope we don't let slip away what was established under KB.

To me, I still think/hope it's a mental thing. His teams and Sean do not seem to be confident in tough situations. Perhaps a couple solid wins could build the confidence.

I didn’t want to start a new thread, but it’s worth mentioning KB’s VT Women beat the #2 ranked NC St. team in OT.

Impressive win for sure but...NC State is not the 2nd best team in the nation, VT WBB is now 8-7 overall, and 3-7 in the ACC after the win, sitting in 12th place.

Just sayin

And they only lost to NC State by 2 in Raleigh last weekend.

They apparently must match up with them well.

Sounds like it was a good series VT vs NCSt. Kinda interesting that VT did so well against NCSt yet they are only 3-7 in the ACC. Gotta wonder about that.

Last November Kenny's contract got extended through 24-25 season even though he has not accomplished as much at Tech, as JMU.

"Brooks is the only active ACC Coach with a streak of 15 consecutive seasons with 20 or more victories, dating back to his tenure at James Madison, his previous stop prior to Tech."

https://hokiesports.com/news/2020/11/23/...nsion.aspx

If Tech and JMU both continued to plateau the next 3-4 years there could be some interesting threads on here.

Looking at their schedule they only lost to #2 (at the time) Louisville by 4 earlier in the season.

Perhaps Kenny is getting close to getting Tech up to where they hoped.

Men's Player
Men's Assist Coach
Women's Assist Coach
Women's Head Coach

He's checked a lot of JMU boxes.

I happened to catch that game yesterday. Tech fell behind early yet regrouped at halftime. They were up by 7 or 8 late in regulation but NC State scored a three at the buzzer to send it to overtime. One of the things I always admired about Kenny (and still do) is his ability to get his team to refocus and get them on the right track. They could have been devastated when State hit that shot but you could see them come back on the court with fire in their eyes. Overtime was all Tech and they won by 8. Fun game to watch.

From the commentators, it sounds like they have lost several games by a hair and their record could very easily be much better. Nice to see them doing well.

I am no longer following the JMU WBB team so I have to get my WBB fix where I can. Glad it was with a good game yesterday.

Since some of the team and coaches are choosing to kneel during the National Anthem, I am choosing to not support them. This breaks my heart - I have been following them for almost 30 years through the good, the bad and the ugly - but I cannot accept the disrespect for the anthem. If they ever choose to not do this any longer I may come back to follow them.

Too many military and law enforcement in my family to go along with this, I know there are many who disagree with me....and that is fine...and I hope the team has a successful season. They'll just do it without me.

Thanks for asking.
