If this team can learn to embrace the collective beauty of defense, the beauty of winning with a purpose, it could be special. Right now they are just getting by people which I guess is a step, but judging from afar this team hasn't come close to 40 minutes especially on the defensive end. Even in victory, very few leading scorers have been held below their averages. Very few teams have been held below their numbers.

Let's hope some leadership in the lockerroom gets this team focused on that end of the court.

RE: men's basketball vs buffalo
a few more observations from last night:

1.) when the starting five reassembled in the later part of the game (for those who didn't follow the game, pippen got his 4th foul early 2nd half & didn't return til 7 min mark our thereabouts) you could see the difference: lock-down D, everyone knew where they were supposed to be. these 5 are not only talented, but have chemistry & play with confidence.

2.) pippen did a darn good job not fouling out for those last 7 min.

3.) these teams do not like one another. you could feel a brawl was about to break out a few times incl. post game. lots of long stares.

4.) geo had an off game.

5.) nuga LOVES basketball. gym rat. knows the game - hustles, anticipates, confident, talented as all get out.

6.) listening to the play by play, couldn't help but think ty linder would have gone on & on/ belabored the blown 20-pt lead. i would have had to turn off the radio & come back a few min later when the flow of negativity would have stopped. i don't miss that.

7.) go flashes!!!!04-rock04-rock

I thought we looked like we didn't know who should be taking shots when Pippen was out and our offense was struggling. There's one stretch in particular I remember where it seemed like Beck and Jacobs were forcing things. Can't remember for sure if Nuga was being rested during this stretch, but I think there is no clear go to option when we're in a rough stretch other than Pippen and Nuga.

RE: men's basketball vs buffalo
I'm not talking about the KSU team, specifically, but I've become accepting of the fact that college basketball teams, in general, often don't "look good" even when they win. There is just too much roster turnover each year, too many players coming and going. Then, somewhat related, changes such as the three-point shot, the shot clock, especially down to 30 seconds now, and even the automatic time-outs, once called "media time-outs", have all limited what coaches can do in terns of strategy, It's just a different landscape now. I doubt will ever see a situation again like the late 1990s and early 2000s when so many players at Kent State stayed around their whole careers. Heck, Mitchell and Huffman played together four years and it showed. Too often, to me, college basketball games almost resemble pick-up games.

As for the comment about Ty Linder....I'll use a bitmoji to express my thoughts about that nonsense....
