University has confirmed it and according to Jason Smith they’re trying to get him eligible to play this year...

Eh, nice and all, but a frosh top 50 type player isn't generally a huge impact players as a frosh, much less without any summer/fall practice.

More importantly, how many more 6-6 wing players does Memphis need right now?

He’s a point guard.

We could have said the same thing about adding DW to the active roster. But I think this addition helps, including with ball handling and igniting O. We'll see.

He’s a point guard.

So he says. We will probably find out he is a wing and still be searching for a true Point.

This isn't about this season. It's about next year. He gets an early start on strength and conditioning, practices, getting used to the other players, etc...

For one thing, DW is man. And 6'9. And he's played D1 ball and put up numbers when he played.

This kid is a 6-6 "athletic" wing who should still be in high school. He's going to jump ahead of Nolley, DJ, and Lester for time at the 2/3 or ahead of Williams and DJ at the 4?

C'mon man.

Ok, cool.

I have been seeing folks acting like this is a huuuge get for NOW that will somehow solve the issues that ail the Tigers currently.

A young and hungry freshman that is eager to prove his worth can be beneficial to the current players. Anyone who is thinking that Nesbitt is going to come in and make an instant impact or any impact at all for this season are fooling themselves.

To act like this isn't big/good news is also foolish.

You added "NOW." Must we dicker back and forth about technicalities of words and exactly HOW helpful it is to bring in a solid talent?

Big big big pick-up. And LOVE that he's here early to get to work!

C'mon man.

He is immediately the most athletic player on the team. That is one thing that this team is really missing--elite athletes. The current team is slow, both in foot speed and quickness, and in jumping ability. Damien Baugh is the only really athletic player on the team. Compare (unfair comparison) to 2008 final 4 team--Elite Athletes in Derrick Rose, Antonio Anderson, and Joey Dorsey (Dozier was a really good athlete), and CDR who was just an elite skilled basketball player. Or Penny's elite 8 team--Penny freak athlete and highly skilled basketball player, Billy Smith (elite athlete), Earnest Smith (elite athlete), David Vaughn (good athlete, highly skilled basketball player).

Last year we lost a freak athlete and an uber quick guard. We have no equivalents to replace that athleticism.

Our current team has some skilled players--DeAndre, Landers, DJ, Lester. None of them is an elite athlete.

The tv guy the other night said DJ was an elite athlete, lol.

Is this Brooks' big news?

I mean, it is big news. I can't recall ever having a midseason addition from the HS ranks. Unfortunately, I also agree that this will not solve most of our current problems.

That's what I was wondering. I mean, it is great news, but the teases in terms of a "big announcement" made me think of something bigger. Hope there is bigger news for the University coming.

In the meanwhile, "Welcome to Jordan!"
