Move over Cradle of Coaches.... NIU is the new spot
TWITTER: Chargers are targeting a current MAC head coach for an assistant coach. Ivan only think of 4 potential targets. Lewis,Lau, Hams, and maybe the CMU guy. Only Lewis does not have NFL experience.

Unless he's going to be an OC or DC for the Chargers that would be a slap in the face for Akron. Lose your head coach to be a position assistant in the NFL.

Isn't Akron undergoing massive budget cuts to athletics?

First and foremost, anyone with a family has to consider finances and I'm willing to bet being an NFL position assistant means the pay is comparable and in relation to some schools, better. The trick is weighing money versus the chance to be in charge of your own program with the belief your success will pay future dividends. Now factor in the budget challenges that Akron and all MAC schools are facing, suddenly the list of pros and cons can really change.
This guy must really know some people. 4 years Division 3, 2 years FCS (with a losing record), and 2 years in the MAC (with a single victory) and the NFL wants him for something other than cleaning off the bottom of guys cleats!?!?

He's making at least $500k. If you can't live on that with a family you are doing something wrong. Also, taxes, cost of living, and buying a home in California are much higher than Ohio. If your goal is to be the head coach of your own program it would be odd to give that up to be an assistant again. I can't think of any other examples of someone giving up being a FBS head coach to go be an NFL assistant.

Didn't Dan Enos leave CMU to become the OC at Arkansas? Hasn't sniffed a HC gig since.

I think he saw the writing on the wall. A lot of CMU fans were calling for him to be fired and he wasn't that successful as a head coach.
We just took an assistant NFL coach for our head coaching job. Just seems to be going backwards to go from a FBS head coach to an NFL assistant. You just don't see that.
