Pensacola seems like the type of place that would support a Division 1 basketball tournament. I believe the attendance should go up compared to what we had at Lakefront Arena, primarily because Pensacola is a large alumni base for Troy and USA fans.

Well, probably not going to happen this year. But, next year when things are back to normal, I could definitely see better attendance in Pensacola compared to New Orleans.

The 3 Mile Bridge is still out.
Hurricane/Skanska damage.
No way to the beach unless you drive around to the Garcon Point Bridge.

Still a lot of fun to be had in Pensacola, but if you want to try to work in some beach time, your drive time just went from 20 minutes to an hour and change.

Just an FYI for folks planning to make the trip.

Well, couldn't you just go West to Perdido Key in 30 minutes?

Yes, yes you could. Stay on Perdido Key, ride into downtown for the games, and head back out to PK for relaxing beach time.

Absolutely.
There isn't as much to do compared to Casino Beach, but it is still a great spot.

Asheville Airport will be adding AVL->Destin this year. That's about an hour drive to Pensacola. Increases the likelihood I'll be going next year greatly.

Pensacola and Perdido Key in Florida and Orange Beach and Gulf Shores in Alabama are all within 30 minutes of each other. Really nice area. Good fishing out of Zeke's Marina in Orange Beach, AL.

Clearly didn't get to go in person this year, but I have really enjoyed the formatting and the venue(s) of this year's SBC Tourney (both men's and women's). I think the dual arena was actually great. Hartsell might be small but for opening rounds a 1100 person capacity sounds about right. If it's full it'll be a great environment. If it's not full then we didn't need to have all the games in a 10,000 person arena anyway.

I'm excited to go next year.

We made a late decision not to go this year, both because of our poor season and Covid concerns. I like the the 2 site set-up as well. I think you guys joined the league after we held the tournament in Hot Springs, AR for several years. Of course, I loved it because it was about 50 minutes from Little Rock, but I think it was the best set-up we have ever had. We had a main arena that sat about 6,000 and right down an indoor hallway was a second venue that sat maybe 1500. It was a short walk from one venue to the other if the game you were watching got "boring". Unlike New Orleans, the town of Hot Springs actually "cared" about the tournament and there were Sun Belt banners on light poles throughout the downtown area. I was hoping Pensacola would also be a smaller city that would embrace the tournament (I think it will be hard to judge that from this "crazy" year. The 2 site set-up allows the tournament to be "condensed" to 4 days and it is hard to get folks to stay somewhere longer than that. Anyway, I'm excited to go next year as well.
