Hope they are able to do something about the horrendous "K2" 75 degree angle upper level seats.
They are beyond nose bleed. It's horrifying climbing up them.

I hope they replace the scoreboard.
The picture gallery mentions the BL Harbert construction contract is $67M, but I thought the original budget was $125M? Did they scale back the renovation plans? If so, I wonder how much difference there will actually be other than the new entrance and replacing the seats.

It was. I wonder the same thing. The Civic Center needs a lot of upgrades.

The Birmingham-based builder was awarded the contract in March with a bid of $66,991,011, which was under the pre-bid estimate.
The total project cost is now $98.16 million, which is significantly under the prior estimate of $125 million. Representatives of the BJCC said some of the soft cost numbers, such as furniture, owner-supplied equipment and others, aren't finalized.

I'm so glad that they are ditching the bomb shelter look! This should be a great thing for Birmingham. Better concerts, better conventions, better chance of hosting NCAA events, etc.

Trust me...nothing compares to the upper deck at Neyland in Knoxville . Needs climbing gear and supplemental oxygen. And you can’t see a damn thing.

It started out at 18,000 right? I feel like 14,500 isn't bad. Planned scarcity can be great for attendance.

There have been many estimates of final seating capacity for the renovated Legacy Arena. There has not even been agreement on seating capacity before renovations so it is guesswork since the size and number of the newly added private luxury boxes has not been (publicly) finalized. My guess from outside looking in would be about 12,000 to 15,000 in the final configuration while hoping for more. So far I have not heard from the contractor (Harbert) exactly how many seats will be provided in the final renovated arena. These numbers appear to be as "soft" as some of the others mentioned.

I believe the new capacity is planned to be close to the old capacity of around 17,500. They will be trading some upper deck butts in seats for luxury box congregation areas.
