Has Calipari losing gotten old?
I’m actually proud of us. We don’t seem to obsess over him like we used to. But man, I don’t see how he lasts through the season .

I think his buyout is over 20 million. He's probably not leaving until HE is ready.

That was his old buyout before extension.
New lifetime contract is around 60mil buyout.

For a fan base which is even more impatient than ours, it must be killing them.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

A lifetime contract is almost always a bad idea. Especially at such a high price, and when it wasn't really needed. Where was Cal going?

I get that success is success, but it is also relative. Look at those last five seasons. Now plug in an NBA super team (the Heat with Lebron, the Warriors with Durant, now the Lakers with Lebron) and ask what would happen if they never made the finals, never made the conference finals, and topped out as a decent but not great playoff team. How hot would the coach's seat be in that situation. Calipari built his one and done system, and that system doesn't allow for much patience.
So take out the Final Four from 6 years ago and the Final Four from 7 years ago? That seems fair.
Based on results from the last 5 years, Kentucky is still the 4th best program in the country along with Kansas, Duke and Gonzaga. So relatively speaking, for anyone to suggest that he won't make it through this season, is insane. Based on giving him credit for an Elite 8 last year (they finished the season ranked #7), that makes 13 wins in the last 5 years.
Your opinion is based on not doing the research and an uninformed outdated echo chamber. In his last 5 recruiting classes, he has only landed one top 5 player. He gets a ton of top 10 players (8), but he is no longer getting the superstar recruits that he was years ago. What you are saying is not close to being true.
Still a top 4 program in the entire country despite that.

23 five star recruits since the 2015 class. Two projected NBA first round picks this year. 12 first round picks since the 2016 draft. Cal has had success, as I said, but he has also done less with more the last few years.
And if I read your argument correctly, you are saying that he's doing good, but he's just not getting the top talent. Doesn't that fall directly on the head coach? Especially when he has committed to a one-and-done system that turns over most of the roster every year?

Kentucky's men's basketball program is pausing team activities and the Wildcats' game against No. 5 Texas on Saturday has been canceled, the school announced Friday.

You start by saying this...
Quote:I get that success is success, but it is also relative. Look at those last five seasons.
They have been a top 4 program the last 5 years, so yes it is relative. You are literally arguing against yourself.
Quote:And if I read your argument correctly, you are saying that he's doing good, but he's just not getting the top talent. Doesn't that fall directly on the head coach?
You said he has the equivalent of an NBA super team with LeBron and Durant; which is bizarre. He hasn't gotten any of the cream of the crop in the last 5 years. He has gotten a lot of very good players and has maintained a top 4 program. By every measure known to man, he is still doing great, even though you arbitrarily decided to drop his two Final Fours from your sample size.
Quote:but he has also done less with more the last few years.
Funny that someone would think that being a top 4 program is doing less with more. He is typically landing players like Joe Jackson, Wil Barton, Moussa, Precious, Adonis Thomas, Jelan Kendrick, Austin Nicholls, Shawne Williams and Darius Washington. Would you expect a Final Four every season if you had landed an average of 4 players in this category and only had them for a season or two? I expect you to say yes, even though common sense says no.
