Remembering a great Bronco
https://wmubroncos.com/news/2020/12/7/ge...sdale.aspx

Mr. Clysdale to me or Pat to others passed this September. I dont know the specifics. Nonetheless he was a great encouragement to me in my time in Kalamazoo.

No and his eldest daughter were cheerleaders at WMU. We knew the family. They were kind of 2nd family being from out of state.

Pat helped me land my first coaching job at Martin. Graduating in December 78 after student teaching at Parchment he got me an interview. I was a permanent sub there until the next year when I got a job at Watervliet to teach and coach.

Last saw Pat about 5 years ago at UA. At half time I took my usual stroll to stretch my legs and stumbled on Pat and his son Tim in the upper level. We talked for 20 minutes. Great to see both.

My condolences to Mrs. Clysdale, Pam, Tim and Jane. Mr. Clysdale was a great guy and of course Bronco.

It wasn't long ago....I'd look up into the corner at University arena and Mr. Clysdayle would be sitting with his (contemporary) buddies, taking in the game.

I turned and asked my friend if he thought that we might be that lucky.

Nice man. Nice family.

RIP.

Well-said, gbl.

Clysdales lived one block over from us in Arcadia (our backyards abutted) and of course I knew Pat from when I played-coached at WMU.

Pam was two years behind me in HS, married my HS teammate Matt Means, and Tim was on first team I coached (K-Central football '75).

Great family and as you said Pat was an all-time Bronco.

Arcadia. Lol. Had a couple meals there. Didn't realize you lived nearby.

Knew Matt relatively well. Of course he went to CMU and was a part of that great program in the mid 70's. Played TE. Smokey Burgess(?) was their killer TB and I'm picturing but don't remember the name of their QB (Frankowick?) who played in the NFL.

Matt later was a GA at MSU for Rogers(?). I remember Matt brought him offer to introduce us at his and Pam's reception (at the Bernard Center. No, we didnt bowl afterwards). They were recruiting my younger brother who would up with Jim Young at Purdue.

That's right. Facing the "zoo" he would sit in the left corner sometimes with Fred Decker and others.

Once ran into Mike Squires in same area. He refereed a number of games of mine at Martin in his off season. He didn't remember me from then but I do recall during that time at Martin before a game he told me he appreciated that we pressed and ran full tilt end to end on every possession. His best games to stretch his cardio. Lol.

Before I left Martin some booster gave me BW prints of game action and one was from our rematch at Hopkins. One pic has Squires in the background running full tilt looking back over a shoulder to make sure nothing happened in real time knowing darn well the ball would be past him momentarily. I always tried to get the ball end to end in 3-4 passes ending in a lay up with the ball never touching the floor. At Hopkins we did it several times for the first time. Kids loved it. Head down sprinting then head up to catch it as full stride.

Poetry in motion:)

When's the last time you (anyone) saw that in a game?
