Over four years, Pierre had a three point percentage of 38%, well above the range you list. The trend has not been great: 47% freshman year to 33% senior year; I guess you could conclude that he has become less talented over time. But it also seems possible that his first year playing in CUSA will be more similar to his first year playing the the Atlantic 10.

UMASS people seem high on him. Jon Rothstein called it a huge get for Pera. With 2 other good 3 point shooters I bet he shoots above 40%. Also I predict we will break our record of 3’s attempted next year, and Fiedler will have a monster year in FG% and assists (just like this year).

McBride official now too. If we return our top 4 scorers (Olivari, Evee, Fiedler and Mullins), that's 77 points per game between those four and the most recent seasons of Pierre and McBride.

We're still going to have to demonstrate that we can play defense, but I'm not sure if many teams in the country are going to be featuring as much D1 returning scoring as Rice.

Eh, Pera is well enough connected to Harden and his projects as it is. Any recruiting having to do with Harden's AAU team would have been extremely easy for him without Howell.

Howell graduated in 2012 and has no experience as an assistant, Van Green was a 2015 grad and is only in his 3rd year as an assistant, and Glasser is a 2010 grad with only two years of assistant experience (one at Caltech).

I’m all for it. Anything to connect with recruits these days, and hiring a younger black coach should go over well with the parents who previously asked why we had so many white coaches.

Our women's staff has less experience than that. They were Class of 2010, 2012 and 2018. One of the best staffs we ever had in men's basketball was under Scott Thompson, and I don't think any of them were over 30 (Willis Wilson, Grey Giovanine and Tom Billeter).

Speaking of the women's staff, hopefully a couple of the current assistants are given a chance to stay on at Rice to keep some continuity. Realistically, only 1 assistant is likely to stay at Rice - at most. But it may depend on whether Tina Langley hires any of them at Washington.

The timing is sucky for Wilson and Asher. King obviously has 5+ years of assistant experience now, and knows our current team best, so she seems the most likely candidate to stay.

I can't imagine a new coach would clean house when part of the battle will be keeping the players.

Offer out to 6-7 Josh Reed of Pace Academy (GA). Offers from BC and Oklahoma State, among others. 247 has him ranked as the #123 prospect in the country.

New offer to 2022 6-10 Danny Wolf. Out of Northfield Mount Hernon (MA). Offer list is pretty short. Hard to get a grasp on him from the few highlight videos out there. Looks like he likes to play as more of a stretch big - shoots the 3 a lot and actually likes to lead the break. Doesn't look to be athletic or quick, but that's not hugely important for somebody who's 6-10. Looks like somebody who has skills a good coach could work with.

These aren't all offers but he has a pretty big list of schools interested in him already.

Again, we're bringing in two true freshmen and the two grad transfers. I still think we're a little thin up front, but we're probably going into the season with our deepest backcourt ever, and honestly one of the deepest backcourts in the country.

ETA - just looking at Mullins, Evee, Olivari, McBride and Pierre (we have other guards too but just concentrating on those five), that's 65 points a game combined from their most recent collegiate season. And career wise, they have a total of 302 career collegiate starts. Of course, you have got to figure out a way to get all five (plus Hutchins) playing time.

I think that they have to find a way to get more minutes to Mylyjael Poteat as well, if he is healthy. from the limited time and vantage point that I could observe his game he seems to have significant upside potential and could help Max be even more effective in the post. Hoping for significant Freshman to Sophomore development in his game like we saw with Q.

Does Rice send its MBB centers to any "Big Man" camps to learn/improve close-in scoring/rebounding techniques, ball-security etc.?

Giovanine announces retirement after 21 seasons

Giovanine was one of the early favorites to become Rice head Coach when Thompson left. Understandably, Rice chose to go with a former player in Willis Wilson. Wilson got close to but never got over the hump. One has to wonder how things might have been if Giovanine had become head coach at Rice instead. He was clearly a helluva coach:
