If they have a tourney, will COVID cause a forfeit or will they just re-bracket you?

Or will that depend on who you are?

NCAA has to have the tournament. If they don't, you may see many athletic departments disappear.

you are going to have teams that played 10 more games than other teams in the same conference

They didn't have a problem letting Ohio State into the CFP. They had five wins and had to get a special exemption to play in their conference championship to make it to six games.

Yep---and what only 1-2 months earlier the conference set the rule---and then changed it and SCREWED MINN

NCAA just gets operation costs from these tournament games and a fee for rainy say operation such as when season it hit with a pandemic.

The vast majority of the money is returned to the member schools. That is why our check this past year was much lower than usual years.

The NCAA is not getting rich on the tournament.

Are you simple or just stone cold stupid?

I'm not sure about Memphis, but this article about Coastal Carolina and East Carolina says $100 per test. Or they can use pool tests that breakdown to like $15 per negative test.

Don't forget the NCAA has nothing to do with the CFP.

While true, the NCAA does determine bowl-eligibility. Six wins would have been enough to get in even if they hadn't relaxed that this year though...

Yeah the bowl system is a much better example since the NCAA deals with that. And it shows that the potential discrepancy won't matter that much, if at all like you mention.

I recall AD Veatch saying late summer that the university had struck a deal with one of the local medical groups for testing at about half the normal rate, ~$50/test. That was before the batch or pool testing concept. Not sure if the university is employing that or not.

I believe we are testing about 3 times per week.

Penny seemed frustrated yesterday with all the cancellations. He said programs needed to do a better job with "bubbles". School, practice, home. After their initial "outbreak" this summer after they first reported back to school, the program seems to be doing pretty good.

NCAA has no say in the CFP the CFP committee runs that

That was nice to get that deal. Hopefully at this point pool testing is commonplace for all teams.

I bet he's frustrated. We're turning into the basketball version of Houston.

Good news yesterday, the WHO announced new, lower PCR scores to determine COVID positivity. We should see an immediate drop in positive cases, meaning less restrictions locally and drastic reduction in postponed sporting events.

I tried but got nothing.
Is this addressing what many have been claiming - the high rate of false positives?

https://www.who.int/news/item/20-01-2021...rs-2020-05

Quote:On Inauguration Day, the W.H.O. issued the new directives for the commonly used PCR testing in the form of a “medical product alert,” indicating that a patient who comes out positive may need to take a second test and present symptoms to be considered infected.

“Where test results do not correspond with the clinical presentation, a new specimen should be taken and retested using the same or different [PCR test],” W.H.O. officials wrote. W.H.O. officials now say that the PCR tests that have been used across the U.S. and elsewhere to detect coronavirus infections are a mere “aid for diagnosis,”

Up until COVID hit in 2020, neither WHO nor the CDC had ever considered a single positive PCR test sufficient for diagnosing viral infection.

W.H.O. officials now explain:
"Disease prevalence alters the predictive value of test results; as disease prevalence decreases, the risk of false positive increases. …. This means that the probability that a person who has a positive result (SARS-CoV-2 detected) is truly infected with SARS-CoV-2 decreases as prevalence decreases, irrespective of the claimed specificity."

SARS-CoV-2 is the official name of the coronavirus.
