Your comment following yesterday's game is actually not warranted, at least from the perspective of this one game. You do have a valid point on Green having too many turnovers, but the problem is deeper than just that.
Here's the line on Green from yesterday.
FG 4-9
44%
3PT 2-4
50%
FT 1-1
100%
RB 4
A 2
TO 3
S 1
PTS 11
The point here is that he actually shot the ball very well, but he did turn the ball over three times. But let's look a little closer at the turnovers.
TPMP = turnovers per minute played.
OK, Green had three turnovers in 38 minutes for 0.079 TPMP, but let's compare Green against three of our other players who play significant minutes.
Oliver 4/24 (0.167 TPMP)
Ezikpe 3/19 (0.158 TPMP)
Curry 4/35 (0.114 TPMP)
Green 3/38 (0.079 TPMP)
Green's turnover rate per minute played yesterday was the lowest of these four. So should we sink or swim without the other three also? Obviously, no. The problem is, as a team, we played sloppy ball with 17 turnovers. What we need to do as a team is clean up the turnovers across the board.
Here are the team turnovers for the season with TPMP noted for our key players.
03 Malik Curry 36/374 (0.096 TPMP)
22 Kalu Ezikpe 24/250 (0.096 TPMP)
11 A.J. Oliver II 15/351 (0.043 TPMP)
23 Austin Trice 12/248 (0.048 TPMP)
15 Joe Reece 17/313 (0.054 TPMP)
10 Xavier Green 37/396 (0.093 TPMP)
12 Jaylin Hunter 11/230 (0.048 TPMP)
00 Mekhi Long 2
25 David Strother 4
21 Alfis Pilavios 1
02 Brady O'Connell 1
13 John Shanu 0
Team 4
Total 156
My point is that it is wrong to pick on just Green, particularly after this game and also for the season in general. We have averaged 13 turnovers per game. Curry, Ezikpe and Green are the worst with each turning the ball over roughly once for every 10 minutes played. If JJ can get those three to value the ball similarly to the way Oliver does, our defense can lead this team to a good number of wins.
Oh, and yes, it would be helpful if Green continues to shoot the way he did yesterday.
