It is GINO time!

Denbrock better get a good buyout because Vandy is where coaches go to be failures. Vandy has had a winning record 5 times in the last 60 years.

Nashville is a good time. Can't blame him for taking a swing through there. Fried chicken is an all or none for me, its either the best thing my teeth could touch, or it is something where I regret the second bite. Hattie B's is worthy of planning vacations for.

I'm no expert, but from what I've seen, Denbrock is an average coordinator, an average recruiter, and an above-average tight end coach. So... meh.

RE: Denbrock interviewing for OC at Vandy
It seems like Gino is instrumental in a lot of these recruits on the offensive side of the ball. Additionally, he originally turned down an OC position to come to UC.

And lastly, and most importantly, if there is any hope of a UC lifer taking the reigns after Fickell departs, he would most assuredly be Plan A.

Onward and upward. Keep this man in the fold!

I think we've all been ready for Gino as OC for about two years now. Let's get it done!

He’s a pretty good recruiter. He landed Chamon Metayer in the 2021 and he was the primary on most of those Chicago kids we have landed the past few years.

All this being said i have a feeling that if he goes to Vandy this was a calculated parting of the ways. The Vandy job will not pay significantly more than this one does (Denbrock was making close to $600k and Vandy does not pay that well) plus it’s a program that annually wins 4-5 games. Who would leave the UC job for that with Des Ridder and the boys coming back with a legit shot to go to another NY6 and possibly beyond.

I know I am speaking blasphemy here, but I would be interested in snagging Ohio State Wr Coach Brian Hartline here if MD goes. Hartline fits the mold of what we have been doing here the past 4 years with the connected and well respected OSU guy who is a monster recruiter. Of course, Gino is a great recruiter too, but the fact that his major offensive influences are Dan Enos and Mike Denbrock scare me a little.

Hartline would be a massive hire, though I think it is a very unlikely scenario. Hartline is probably the best WR coach in the country and one of the best recruiters.

I think people don't give Denbrock enough credit. I know he is a bit of an easy target, but our offense took a lot of strides this year after being hamstrung the past couple of years and the Tight Ends are one of our best coached position groups.

Denbrock has also been a very solid recruiter while here helping us lock up a lot of Illinois talent. He also seems well liked by the players. I think he is a lot easier to replace than a guy like Freeman, but he has been more than "average" during his time at UC. I am excited for Geno to finally get his shot (He has to be the likely choice right?).

RE: Denbrock interviewing for OC at Vandy
Denbrock took the most important position and took a guy from 8th in the conference in QBR in 2019 to conference player of the year in 2020. He's obviously not the only reason, we have more talent and Ridder was healthier, but he deserves a lot of credit for developing an offense that maximizes his tools and limits his weaknesses.

I'll second that.

If Ridder's pass completion percentage was just marginally higher he'd be borderline elite. That's not a knock on the man--he's a great college QB. But UC was probably one or two completed passes away from victory in the Peach (and I'm not referencing the infamous 3rd and 2 specifically) and Denbrock can't will or coach the ball into the receivers hands. I think he's done a very good job at UC in terms of helping Fickell build this machine. Yes, he can be replaced but give him a better pure passer and see what his offense does.

Regarding Gino, it's great he's in the program and has done excellent work recruiting and working with our QB's and RB's. Is he prepared to direct the entire offensive effort for a top ten team next season? Only Fickell can answer that.

For what it's worth, Gino had been promoted to OC at Central Michigan prior to his hiring here. He was in the position for a month before coming back down here. He probably feels he's ready.

RE: Denbrock interviewing for OC at Vandy
Replacing both coordinators in the year where we have the best chance we're ever going to have of making the playoffs is so Cincinnati sports its not even funny.

Excited about the prospect of Gino running the offense, even if he is green, and as others mentioned, he would likely be the guy after Fickell if he is successful here as OC, and I think we'd stand a chance of keeping him for awhile which is always nice. I wonder who we would get to replace Denbrock with the TEs. That's a population of heavy opportunity for us given the talent up and down the depth chart there.

RE: Denbrock interviewing for OC at Vandy
I do not necessarily agree with it being a bad thing replacing coordinators with veterans coming back, particularly if there are promotions from within. Sometimes the next step up makes guys a little hungrier and creative. The players know these guys, and Fickell has shown some preference for getting younger guys involved. In year 1, i think it was a good thing to help Fickell with a veteran guy, but now i think he has his feet underneath him with what he is doing. That said, whether Denbrock would leave or not is anyone's guess. Fickell was better paid than Derrick Mason so how that impacts coordinator's salaries is anybody's guess.

Great programs lose coordinators / other coaches to better jobs / promotions. We still have the guy up top and we are brining back loads of talent. I feel great about where the program is.
