RE: Liz Cheney-traitor
Quote:House Freedom Caucus Chair Andy Biggs (R-AZ) and Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-MT) called for Rep. Liz Cheney’s (R-WY) ouster as the House Republican Conference chairwoman Tuesday night after she came out in favor of impeaching President Donald Trump.

“There has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution,” Cheney said in a statement Tuesday, announcing her support for impeaching Trump.

The announcement engendered a swift denunciation from House conservatives such as Rep. Matt Rosendale and Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), the House Freedom Caucus chair.

“When Representative Cheney came out for impeachment today, she failed to consult with the Conference, failed to abide by the spirit of the rules of the Republican Conference, and ignored the preferences of Republican voters,” Rosendale said in a statement Tuesday.

“She is weakening our conference at a key moment for personal political gain and is unfit to lead. She must step down as Conference Chair.”

“She should resign her position as a conference chair and should not be serving this conference. That’s it,” Biggs told the Washington Examiner.

The call for Cheney’s ouster reached a boiling point Tuesday, even though House conservatives have sparred with the third-ranking House Republican for months.

House conservatives launched a revolt against Cheney last July during a conference, which drew the support of Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Donald Trump Jr.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), a Freedom Caucus cofounder and one of Trump’s top allies in the House, attacked Cheney for the several times she opposed Trump. The Ohio conservative noted that Cheney had attacked Trump’s response to the coronavirus, his Twitter account, and his plans to withdraw from Afghanistan. Jordan said that these attacks do not help Republicans.

Biggs said that Cheney’s attacks against the president undermined the president’s ability to win back the House.

“Dick Cheney says WEAR A MASK. #realmenwearmasks,” Cheney wrote, tweeting a picture of former Vice President Dick Cheney, using the same phrase that Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) used to attack the president.

One House GOP senior staffer told Breitbart News in July, “The rank-and-file House Republicans are attempting to get leadership that actually reflects their voters on issues.”

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) said in July that Cheney should step down as the House Republican Conference chair.

“Liz Cheney has worked behind the scenes (and now in public) against @realDonaldTrump and his agenda. House Republicans deserve better as our Conference Chair,” Gaetz wrote. “Liz Cheney should step down or be removed.”

In July, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) and Biggs also lambasted Cheney for supporting Rep. Thomas Massie’s (R-KY) primary opponent.

House conservatives also noted that Cheney sponsored an amendment to the now-passed National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that would tie the president’s hands on withdrawing from Afghanistan.

In an interview with Breitbart News Tonight host Rebecca Mansour, Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN), a military veteran who served in Afghanistan, called Cheney’s amendment “egregious” and “exactly the opposite of what we should do.”

The big problem I see with the term RINO is who knows what a non-RINO republican is any more.

Republicans used to be pro-growth, balanced budget, strong military, non-interventionist, and basically neutral on a lot of social issues. The neocons got them into an interventionist foreign policy mode and they along with evangelicals got them into a socially conservative mode. Neither party (other than maybe Bill Clinton at one time) has given a whit about fiscal responsibility in decades.

I would consider the neocons to be the true RINOs.

Yep.

In my list of "Things that make Trump a Dem" I somehow left out fiscal responsibility.

While not as egregious as Obama, even in Trump's first three years (not using covid as an excuse) the country engaged in massive deficit spending.

I assume most folks who are calling folks RINO'S support Trump.

You realize, Trump is the biggest RINO out there, literally Republican in name only. Much for of a moderate Dem.

His trade policies and agreements are more closely aligned with Bernie Sanders.

His crime/prison reform policies that were passed were ideas blocked by Republican congressmen.

Outside of lip service to abortion and religion, he really hasn't done anything substantial.

His supreme court picks have not been right leaning ideologues.

He was the first president elected with the belief that the gays can get married.

His foreign policy is much more libertarian than republican.

Essentially, the only things he did that were more favored by republicans would be increasing border security and cutting taxes for corporations.

Conservatives like the Cruz wing of the party call traditional Republicans RINOs. There are people like Kasich who really are RINOs (You don't have to agree with Republicans on religious freedom but you aren't one if you don't understand the issues--"I think the baker should sell the gays a cupcake."). But the people who are more quick to abandon the party are usually the people who call other Republicans RINOs. The cut off your nose to spite your face Pat Buchanan types.

It's confusing, because basically it seems the right wing folks who get mad that a rebublican doesn't agree with EVERY SINGLE tenet of what a conservative is "supposed" to believe becomes a RINO the minute they don't keep in 100% lock step.

Bill Lee in TN becomes a RINO (even though he's VERY conservative) because he wouldn't oppose refugee resettlement in TN.

Tate Reeves, another pretty damn conservative guy, is called a RINO because he authorized a mask mandate for MS.

Basically, these folks sound like the same-but opposite to the left wing Progressives who demand a "with us or against us" attitude towards left or moderate dems.

But, again, it circles back to Trump. No one seems to turn on him for being a RINO. He has put forth several policies and has personal beliefs that would easily brand him a RINO or even a moderate Dem.

IMO, I think most Trump supporters on this site generally liked his policies....and thoroughly enjoyed him sticking it in the eye of the media. I know I surely don’t view him as some transcendent individual.

He just made it a point to expose (or tried to) the hypocrisy that is the Washington political/bureaucratic class.

In the end......it’s those folks that destroyed him. They don’t like being exposed.

With that said, I’ll take a more conservative politician over the loony left any day......

I despise both democrats and republicans as we know them today. The only real difference the democrats will do what ever it takes, I respect someone that will fight to get what they want, to win.....

anything and that includes what we saw over the last 4 years and especially 2020.

But when democrats and republican (in office) both dont like you (President Trump) then that person is most likely doing a great job for most Americans, that fall between middle and working class.

The republican party didnt give a crap about President Trump when he was elected. If the democrats had impeached the president in the first six months...they might have got the 2/3 vote to remove him. Didnt matter what charges. The candy ass republicans came around when they started seeing the common people in their party supporting this president, in record numbers.

Both sides despise you that person is doing a good job for American. One side hates you that person is doing a good job for their MASTERS on that side.

It will probably be another 50 years before a person is President that actually doesn't care about what is republican and what is democrat. Lets hope at that time the machine doesnt eat that person up like they have President Trump.

I cant stand either party...they both want what is best for them. Not you or I. Whats 100% best for you or I is probably not what is best for the country. Its a mixture of both. As pointed out in this thread....

President Trump has done just that and the machine that likes complete control torn him to pieces and told others how to think.

Using an imaginary definition of impeachment is being a traitor to the country.

LOL. Gaetz earned that one.

Cheney and Gaetz can continue their feud as private citizens on January 3, 2023, when their congressional tenure comes to an end.

Yeah.

But Gaetz and Cheney really are having a feud, and Gaetz really did deserve that shot, imho
