House Democrats have introduced a bill to abolish the electoral college
Quote:House Democrats have introduced a bill to abolish the electoral college via constitutional amendment.

Introduced on January 11th and referred to the House Judiciary Committee, the resolution proposes an “amendment to the Constitution of the United States to abolish the electoral college and to provide for the direct election of the President and Vice President of the United States.”

Authors of the bill include Rep. Cohen, Rep. Zoe Lofgren, Rep. Jan Schakowsky, Rep. Julia Brownley, Peter DeFazio, Rep. Adriano Espaillat, Rep. John Garamendi, and Rep. Jim Cooper.

Before revealing what the constitutional amendment would look like, the bill rebukes the electoral college as created in “an era of limited nationwide communication and information sharing” and resting on “an antiquated theory that citizens will have a better chance of knowing about electors from their home States than about Presidential candidates from out of State”

“The development of mass media and the internet has made information about Presidential candidates easily accessible to United States citizens across the country and around the world,” the bill also notes.

The bill includes a seven-section article to be added to the Consitution:

I don’t think the idiots can get more than 10 states to sign on. I think they know it. Just stroking their base.

Pandering to their base that wants this nonsense. They know full well this is not going to happen. Just typical politicians setting up their records for re-election. "Well I have a record of pushing for this..."

The only thing these people represent - is the dead past.

Obviously, this cannot be changed with a simple law. It requires a constitutional amendment. Which means a bunch of small states, which the law is designed to protect---and red states who the law serves well---will need to vote to support an amendment designed to screw them. Zero chance thats happening.

It sounds good to their lemmings though. Those people don't even know how the Electoral College works. They probably wonder why it doesn't sport a football team.

With their new found ability to massively manipulate vote results, I wouldn’t put it past them to take a run at it.

Everyone needs to look up their Rep (brobate) and see if they join this garbage.

Will it ever pass? Not likely. But a quick call or email from enough folks can send the message.

We have no interest in being ruled by hollyweird, chitcago and the upper east side of Manhattan.

Ever

GFY.

Honestly, I’m totally against it, but it’s one of the few times it appears a few Democrats are actually attempting to amend the Constitution the right way.....and/or it may be just political theater.

Regardless....good luck getting 38 states to ratify this change....

Stink I fear this is just step 1 in an attack on the Constitution and the SCOTUS. It's not a serious proposal and while it plays to the base that isn't the motive. The motive is to lay the groundwork for their press to push that the Constitution is outdated and needs to be replaced. It's step one in dismantling the State's obligation to the people. If SCOTUS blocks them it is also step 1 to justifying the packing of the Court.

If the moderates in both parties held out any hopes that Biden wouldn't change much this is their big ass wake up call that they've put a Radical in the White House and allowed the theft of the Presidency and the Senate. This is why sometimes moderates are a bad thing. As Eric might remind you God promised to spew the lukewarm out of his mouth. This is why. We can have moderates and appreciate them when the system is not in jeopardy. But, this last election is to date the greatest threat our way of life has ever faced. We'll see how many of the mindless public just buries their heads in the sand and hope this nightmare passes. They never do. The only way out of one is to wake the hell up!

Liberals want everything slanted to benefit them. When someone or a group of someones recognizes this and calls them on it, they are unmercifully blasted. They’re hammered into submission, by any and all means possible. And they do it from their false/fake and phony moral high ground.

Yep I've done that. Now I have to help them devise and prepare to execute their plan for survival. Do that and I can depart in some peace.
