Along with news and soap operas, it had been the most enduring forms of content on TV. However, they are at an interesting cross-roads. Pre-Covid they didn’t get the number of fans to the arena that they used to and people weren’t watching Monday Night Raw in the numbers they used to, but people were buying the WWE Network to watch all the old wrestling content they have on it. People actually like the stuff from the 70s-90s better than the current stuff. People like listening to inside stories from the wrestlers talking about the old days than watching the new stuff.
Is that because the demographic is so old? The only people I personally know that watch WWE are quite old.
The older people do not like the current product. WWE is aimed at the kids. Younger males are watching competitor AEW which is a little edgier. The old guys are watching the WWE Network to watch Jim Crockett Promotions/Georgia Championship Wrestling from the 80s and to hear the talent tell stories about the old days.
As in Rick Flair and Wahoo McDaniels?
or were they on a different network?
They are on there. When the WWE bought WCW back in 2000 it included all their library going back to the Mid-Atlantic Territory days. The WWE has made a mint of that deal— they bought WCW for a little over $2M; they’e absolutely killed that investment on the library alone.
Well damn...I need to check this out. Jim Crockett days?

If the network is worth 1B over 5 years then Id imagine people still watch. Mostly posted this due ti the seismic shift from cutting cable to streaming.

I must be a really old guy, plus one who doesn't care about wrestling.
The last wrestlers I ever saw on TV were Bruno Samartino and Jumpin' Johnny Defazio on Studio Wrestling broadcast by WIIC-TV in Pittsburgh in the late Sixties and early Seventies.

Not personally, I just missed them, but my parents and uncles/aunts did, and told me about them.

I actually owned a leather helmet, and played sandlot games with it as a kid. The newer, hard helmets weren't yet that big of an improvement for youngsters like us. But Terry's way too young for that.

Maybe going back to leather helmets and leather noseguards might be good for Football? Add in single platoon too...that would really help parity.

And mandatory 2 way football, 11 players for each team, and get rid of targeting and horse collar penalties.
