Final AP poll
Coastal #14
Louisiana #15
App State was unofficially #26 (10 points off of Buffalo at 25)

Total of 8 G5 schools in the Top 25 and a few right outside it.

2 Indy, 2 MAC, 2 SBC, 1 AAC, 1 MWC, and ZERO from the other one.

Sun Belt also had wins vs the #9 (ISU) and #11 (BYU) ranked teams.

Dang.... just 10 points away from having App State ranked and having three Top 25 teams.

That would've been great.

Damn. This is the second time in three years we’ve been the first among others receiving votes. I’d almost rather be second. Frustrating.

When comparing the 2018 #26 App State to 2020 ranking at #26 I can't help but feel that 2018 ranking/finish was more deserving.

Can't tell if it's the SBC getting more respect this year, covid impact, or more likely a combination of the two.

It helped that the SBC was the main show on ESPN for a month. It also helped that they were very entertaining games, and not all USA-GaSo “first team to a first down wins“ games.

RE: Final AP poll
I think it’s a combination of both. ESPN College Football just tweeted a WAY too early top 25 and they have Louisiana at 19 (LSU at 20), and Coastal at 23

I’m sure all of the SBC rankings are elevated by the COVID situation as well as the past performance of App State and the overall performance of the SBC in the past 5 years. Hopefully we can use this as an opportunity to keep building.

It all started when ULM beat a ranked Arkansas in 2012 04-chairshot

RE: Final AP poll
A few more seasons like this and we might end up with a nice TV revenue payout. If we consistently have a team or two in the top 25 range is it too much to ask we get similar money as MWC? Isn’t their new deal going to be worth a little over a mil each season? Also I think near the end of our deal is when we strike and add USM and Marshall. The “belt” would actually be complete with USM haha and Marshall is a fan favorite. 12 (14) #FunBelt becomes the #WealthBelt. A true rags to riches story

I bet. That little bit eats at you a lot of bit. I remember in college days I was 1 point away from having an A on a test. I told the professor I'd rather you give me a C than to know I was that close. What do you know, that's exactly what he did

2 teams finished in Top 15, that is special. 04-bow

I see you App St., even finishing 1st on the outside looking in, has value. 04-cheers

Folks will want/expect the Sun Belt to fall backwards next season, just so they can say this was all Covid related, but the on field results were going to play out the same in a regular 2020 season. The real benefit was all the TV exposure.

The NCAA rule to freeze eligibility will continue to help grow the Sun Belt, we will not be falling back in 2021. 2021 the Sun Belt makes a hard run for the top spot in the G5. 03-cloud9

RE: Final AP poll
Personally, I don't expect the Sun Belt to have much of a step back. For our part, we have high hopes in our new OC. The steps other teams have taken to rebuild are very well done. I believe the strength of the Sun Belt helped aid the rebuilding for these teams, possibly adding to the attraction of these incoming coaches (Butch Jones, Bowden and others). At the very least, we are poised to maintain the gains we have made this year.

App lost to 3 Top 25 teams by the slimmest of margins (final score not really indicative of Coastal or Marshall). Had a chance to tie against UL, had the game against Coastal wrapped up if not for one of the worst decisions I've seen Thomas make, and Marshall fumble by Evans, missed FG, and interception on a bad throw, again, by Thomas.

I'd say App was just as deserving, if not more considering COVID and having a new coaching staff again.
