RE: What’s the latest on the WMU color and logo rebrand
I find it interesting that we prefer a "gold" color that is based on the "vegas gold" used for several years (I like it best), but the inspiration for our school colors was the many Brown Eyed Susan plants growing naturally on the land that became the west or main campus. The yellow of the plant is no where the "gold" we seem to like for our color choice.

I think I will just refer to it as "CMU Yellow" going forward.

cmu faithfull like your support but WMU needs a real gold color

Ha! It was meant as more of a dig toward my WMU brethren who like the yellow.

We had a pretty good discussion between yellow and vegas gold earlier in this thread. I'm not completely sold on the idea it was brown eyed susans -- especially when many of the old WMU yearbooks were more of true (vegas) gold.

RE: What’s the latest on the WMU color and logo rebrand
What if…. Because of the hockey player and administration scandal there might need to be major changes with the school admin based on what comes out. This could force montogomery out amongst others. New president comes in and has a different view on the rebrand and has proudfoot change course. We get our old logos back. New president is a hero and unites the school. What if….

and I do want to say that this whole hockey thing is absolutely Atrocious . It needs to stop and changes for the better implemented. I will wait for the legal process to play it’s course and investigations to be made. But what we are hearing from rumors is sickening.

The effects of this changes lives of those involved in so many ways. Many will not be the same as they try to recover from this.

Could CMU Yellow & WMU Gold be the same because both Universities are Adidas sponsored & Adidas only has only yellow/gold?
Cost prohibitive to develop true brown & gold colored items?

As sad as it is, that may very well be the case.

Didn't Adidas support WMU all those years with Vegas gold? Sorry, I'm not buying they don't have our shade of vegas gold.

RE: What’s the latest on the WMU color and logo rebrand
I took my youngest son to the hockey game Saturday. We were hanging out at my older son's apartment prior to the game with his roommates and some of his friends. The conversation turned to the rebrand and everyone agreed that the new logos look like a "junior high" work. Some of the kids parents had attended WMU and stated their parents were unhappy with it as well. We also stopped by the Lawson merchandise "store" and I heard a few people grumbling about the rebrand.

While it's a small sample size compared to the university as a whole, I think most people who are aware of the previous rebrand are not happy. Essentially, you cannot degrade your product and think people will accept it as the norm.

Very few people (alumni, community members, students, staff) think the brand is an upgrade. Most see it as an exercise in ego by Proudfoot. He is tone deaf to the community at large, and is pushing change for the sake of change. His stance is that if someone doesn't like it, it's their fault.

Shame on him and shame on the President for allowing it. This is all one big joke.

So what you're telling us is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on a rebrand that most people affiliated with WMU don't want instead of spending limited dollars on recruiting and retaining students is a bad idea?

Have they already pivoted to a different Bronco? This one has abandoned the terrible yellow accents on it, but it is still facing right.

They have been using this logo minus the yellow tips for football and hockey here and there. I think the signage added to Waldo mid season was this logo. It’s still crap. It faces the wrong way and why even change the eye and mouth from before. On another note I noticed the alumni association has been using the cartoon buster logo (facing west) in a few different formats.

On the same email the header has the bronco head with the yellow frosted tips and the footer with their social media links is still brown and vegas gold. They are a mess.

According to pg 7 of 2021 Athletic Brand Guide, a 1C variation is acceptable:

This "spirit mark" has been degraded from the original. I don't accept it nor should anyone associated with WMU.

Heather -- I noticed the footer in vegas gold as well. What a mess, indeed.

WMU marketing is too late to the game. 95% of the hockey crowd is wearing black and vegas gold and I don't see many going back to yellow.

It’s an email they sent me for hockey tickets.
