I knew Montgomery would be an utter disaster when I read up on his bio. But hey, on the bright side maybe we'll be the most inclusive University in the nation when he is through!

RE: What’s the latest on the WMU color and logo rebrand
I saw NMU impeached their president a few weeks ago. Not sure why, tho.

But I did just find this quote: “I believe we need more critical thinking and idea generation from the president’s office," added Young, who is a retired Lansing lobbyist who was appointed to the board in 2019. "In the area of enrollment, we need more. We need bold action. Declining enrollment is never something we should accept. Rather, we should wake up every day thinking about how can we reverse that trend and grow.”

RE: What’s the latest on the WMU color and logo rebrand
This administration has done nothing to indicate enrollment is a priority. They have consistently cut the Admissions operations staff and outreach personnel. There is no real marketing - and we've seen how terrible the rebrand has gone.

I honestly don't know what else the current Director of Admissions can do. They are finally searching for a VP of Enrollment, which has been held by an interim person who knows nothing about enrollment, but are offering no tools for them to work with. The Admissions Director has had her budget cut every single year. They are operating on a budget less than half the schools we are competing with for students. She came back to WMU (where she graduated from and started her career) after building an outstanding resume at schools across the country. So far she has been ignored by administrators.

Clearly, Montgomery is in over his head in respect to enrollment, and he is trusting the wrong people (Proudfoot and VanderKlay) to advise him. The Board of Trustees is so out of touch it's embarrassing. Those of us who see it can't say anything because we could lose our jobs.

“WMU has no record of who approved new logo, when students, faculty, staff were consulted” - From the Western Harald.

Proudfoot is using this to deny the FOIA request,

F’in unbelievable!

I feel the same as bronco89 -- and I have also pulled donations until things change. I don't have time now to elaborate.

Here is the Herald article I referred to last night: https://www.westernherald.com/news/artic...dcce3.html

As I understand it, Proudfoot didn't exactly rebrand Indiana or Arizona, he made sure rouge departments got on board with the same branding. So I'm not buying what he selling-- unless I missed something...

Thanks for sharing. I would love to see data, feedback, or insight which suggests a substantial rebrand was needed for WMU in the first place.

RE: What’s the latest on the WMU color and logo rebrand
As we continue to spend money on awful rebrand of campus, CMU is making their marketing dollars work hard by placing a float in Detroit's "America's Thanksgiving Parade" https://www.mlive.com/news/2021/10/centr...-year.html Channel 4 just covered the story during my lunch this afternoon. 03-puke

In the mean time, we are finalizing some Christmas orders for the family with some old WMU gear since the new WMU gear has completely gone to sh!t. My question is how long do I need to plan for until Montgomery retires and we can reverse this thing?

So, the faculty is going to have a vote of no confidence in Montgomery over academic stuff while the Board is looking to give Montgomery a "merit based" raise.

Edit: It also included - The working group also said the university’s latest rebranding initiative “brought embarrassing national attention to WMU.”

The sad part is that when I get together with my former teammates they all feel the same way.

This arrogant, tone deaf administration needs to figure out that we are not their sand box to play in. In the interactions that I have had with Montgomery he has come across as a pompous ass. Proudfoot is even worse. The gratuitous butt kissing I witness towards Montgomery was nauseating…. and he seemed to soak it all in.

One would think that the precipitous decline in enrollment, the complete failure of the branding initiative and the lack of athletic success would cause them to reflect and reevaluate their strategy. Instead that are as full of themselves as ever.

Over and out… I’m done until I see some major changes in leadership.

This is what happens to everyone when they get old. They don’t recognize their institutions anymore.

I actually love the brown and gold circle W. It looks like an 80s throwback. And brown and gold are great colors. White, grey, and black are overdone and generic. And I say this as someone who hates EMU’s stupid grey field/uniforms.

IMO.

Brown and GOLD, legitimate gold, are great colors. Not so much brown and yellow, which is what WMU has irresponsibly adopted.

At least WMU got rid of the annoying black. Should have just kept the legit gold, with dark brown as the primary color and white trim.

Proudfoot should be fired.

If this is accurate, our helmets were actually gold before they were yellow. I might have to reach to see if this is correct.

And the "flesh tone" helmet ? 03-puke It prolly was brown at first and then they attempted to paint them white, but the brown color was bleeding through

Here is the reply from the guy running the football helmet website:

Quote:I did my research from their (WMU) yearbooks. Early photos are hard to tell colors but pretty sure they were gold. Here's my website. https://helmethistory.com/western-michigan.html

And when he states gold, he is not talking about yellow. So there you have it.

I like the look in the 40s and 50s with the gold helmets and the 3 brown stripes. We need to bring that back. My 2nd favorite is the all brown helmets with large gold W from the 70s/80s.
