I'd like to see some new blood in the CFP but it'll never happen. The old guard with it's ESPN cronies has it's grips on CFB and they're going to keep shoving it down our throats... AND YOU WILL LIKE IT.

Yawn.

Bama and OSU have had 31 first round picks between them in the past 5 years. Since 2000, Alabama has landed an NFL-high 35 first-round picks. Ohio State is No. 2 on that list, just behind them with 34. Miami is the only other school with more than 24 first-rounders, producing 30 during that span.

That's just sick. They just re-load. Everyone else is just fighting to be the "other" 2 teams in the CFP. When in reality, even that is about 3-4 other teams.

This was an outlier year even for Alabama. They had 3 likely 1st rounders last year on offense that opted to come back for another year of college (Devinta Smith, Najee Harris, Alex Leatherwood). Not sure any of us will see that happen again.

Nick Saban is now:
170-23 in 14 seasons at Alabama (including 5 vacated wins) with a 256-65-1 record in 25 total seasons with a 127-27 record in the SEC in his two stops in the conference.

Has finished 15/25 seasons in the final Top 10 ranking

Has played in 9 National Championship games (7-2 in those games)

Is 17-10 in Bowl and NT games (Played in 13 NY6 bowls with a 8-5 record

Has won his conference's division 15 times in 25 seasons, and has won 10 Conference Titles in that time.

To me, there is no doubt that he is the best football coach ever, in any level of football.

I'd say Clemson is firmly planted in the top tier. They've been in the playoffs more than OSU and have more national titles in the playoff era. In reality it's a 3 team top tier and then I'd say you have a secondary tier of 5-6 teams like UGA, LSU, OU, ND. And ND and OU are playoff threats but aren't real national title contenders. The non-Bama top SEC teams have enough talent to win titles like LSU but don't have the coaching of Saban or Dabo.

To all sentient beings who are being honest with themselves. We are likely watching something that may never be replicated.

I read an article a couple years back interviewing NFL scouts and GMs saying it’s not just the talent level coming out of Alabama, it’s how incredibly well coached they are fundamentally on and off the field that makes it low risk/high reward to grab them in the draft if you are choosing between players rated fairly equally. One called it the Saban insurance policy. It’s like an NFL finishing school since he has that background as well.

I know he tells guys all the time that it’s their individual film cuts that gets them drafted and gets them roster spots...NFL front offices don’t see the score or what part of the game it is when they watch the scouting film..they see you over and over again. Every play non sequentially. If you take a play off because you are up 52-10 in the 4th quarter, NFL guy watching that film cut of you doesn’t see that it’s a blowout in garbage time...they see you taking a play off or getting beat. That is drilled into them from the time they show up to campus. Guys that don’t get the message often find another home.

One of my favorite things to watch is when they are up huge after halftime and someone jumps offsides the camera knows to cut to him...only time he turns purple and loses his freaking mind on the sideline is when guys make mental mistakes when up big. The poor assistant coaches know to start walking away because they are about to get flayed.

There's no question he's the best college coach of all time. The only part I wouldn't agree with is the any level of football part. Belichick has 6 Super Bowls in a league that is built to ensure competitive balance among all franchises. Throw in his Super Bowls as a defensive coordinator and I'm not sure I wouldn't take Bill. Not saying taking Saban is wrong; just that it's not a no doubter.

And to think that, when we hired him, Tuberville was the only coach with a lifetime winning record against Saban AND Meyer.

Tuberville's career bona fides were head and shoulders above anyone else who ever arrived in Clifton to coach UC football which made his lackluster performance here all the more frustrating. Thankfully, Fickell has taken us to new heights in four seasons.

His bonafides were ancient history. He was about to get fired from Texas Tech because he could no longer hire the best coordinators and position coaches to do his job for him like he did at Auburn.

Good luck with that. He’ll never have that equivalent level of protection or weapons in the NFL. He has NFL talent, but he was propped up by his OL, Smith/Waddle, and Sark. Put him on BYU and he wouldn’t even be considered 1st rd talent. He’d have a few less DUIs though.

FYI, New England cut Cam Newton this morning..

Mac Jones apparently earned the starting job. He’s looked really good this preseason.

An NFL podcast I listened to broke down the rookie QBs in pretty incredible depth for the preseason and Mac Jones stood out to me too. In his 3 preseason games (9 drives), all but one drive ended in points, and all but 2 drives were longer than 50 yards. His deep ball accuracy is arguably the best singular skill I've seen out of a rookie QB in a long time, and his preseason stats were pretty solid overall (36/52 for 389 yards and 1 TD...included in those 16 incompletions were 12 drops...). He was the 2nd rated passer by PFF this entire preseason out of the 77 players who threw a pass.

And of course...he plays Tua in Week One.
