2021 baseball
Still no schedule released but here's a few series we know based off our opponents releases. Of note, CUSA weekend series are now 4 game series which means there will be 32 CUSA games if weather or other factors don't interfere..Friday, Saturday 7 inning DH, Sunday. CUSA travel partners play each other home and home so we have a home and road series with La Tech.

March 26-28: host La Tech
April 16-18: at La Tech
May 7-9: host MTSU

please feel free to add on series if you know or see them

RE: 2021 baseball
Some scheduling news slowly trickling out. Rumors are we’re hosting both UConn and Jacksonville St in weekend series. Jacksonville St has made a couple ncaa tournaments the past 6 years while UConn has made 6 NCAA postseason appearances over the past 10 years.

RE: 2021 baseball
**This too**
We are excited to start the baseball season at Pete Taylor Park on Friday, February 19th vs. Northwestern State for a three-game series! We appreciate all fans remaining patient as we have worked through Covid-19 regulations and policies in order to ensure a safely-played baseball season in Hattiesburg and to finalize the entire 2021 schedule.

Capacity restrictions have been implemented under the current executive order from Governor Reeves for home games to begin the baseball season that will set capacity at Pete Taylor Park at 25%. Gates will continue to open two hours prior to game time.

If your seats are in the Chairback and Box seat sections, your locations will be reserved and allocated.

If you are a General Admission season ticket holder, your seats will be assigned in a particular section. This means that you may sit anywhere within your assigned section. It will be mandatory to practice social distancing outside of your family group within your section. Additional measures that will be implemented on campus and at Pete Taylor Park will include:
Digital/contactless ticketing will be the primary ticket delivery method, unless physical tickets are requested
Hand sanitizer stations at entrances and throughout the entire park
Social distancing measures while in the concourses, concession stand and restroom lines
Increased cashless only concession and merchandise stands; limited cash stands will still be available
Mandatory face coverings at all times while in the park. Fans must wear face coverings to enter the park, while in transit throughout the park, and while seated.
Original 2020 seat locations will be held for each season ticket holder for the 2022 season. Additionally, all bleacher sections will return to General Admission entirely for the 2022 season.

Premium seating areas including the Suites, Bullpen Club, and The Roost will remain unchanged this season.

Please note that season ticket prices will remain unchanged for the 2021 season. All current season ticket holders who have placed deposits on their seats will receive a call from the ticket office in the coming days to be informed of seat locations and to pay off final balances owed on all seats. Please call the Southern Miss ticket office at 1800-844-TICK (601-266-5418) or email ticket.office@usm.edu with any questions or to pay the remaining balance on your seats.

Please click here to view the full 2021 Southern Miss baseball schedule.
Any other information on the 2021 baseball season will be communicated via http://www.SouthernMiss.com and by email.

We look forward to an exciting baseball season and having our fans in Pete Taylor Park to cheer on the Golden Eagles. SMTTT!

RE: 2021 baseball
I realize we had to make adjustments but to only have 2 midweek HOME games is a bit surprising, and the fact we play South Alabama 3 times this year (2 in Mobile, 1 in Hattiesburg). Overall not too bad of a schedule IMO.

Yes...as part of CUSA's "money saving" efforts CUSA is doing the 4 game weekend series along with playing your closest opponent home and away so the same matchups will happen between UTSA/Rice (3.5 hr drive), LT/USM (3hr 45 min drive), UAB/MTSU (2 hr 55 min drive), FIU/FAU (1 hr drive), WKU/Marshall (4 hr 15 min drive), and ODU/Charlotte (5 hr 5 min drive). As well, there is a "bye weekend" the weekend before the CUSA tournament starts and teams had the option of scheduling non conference series or taking a bye that weekend. ODU is playing at La Tech that Thursday and Friday. USM left it open and my assumption is so it can be possibly used to get in some makeup games if needed.

The Golden Eagles, which were supposed to open the campaign on Friday against Northwestern State at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field, will now play a 12 noon doubleheader, Saturday, Feb. 20, with two nine-inning games.

Games changed to Sat/Sun/Mon.

Interesting rotation this weekend of Stanley/Best/Boyd. Wonder what’s up with Powell and Shepherd.

Thought I read Powell was facing some kind of internal suspension and Shepherd is injury prone.

I heard that Powell is in time out for two weeks (?disciplinary?) and they are being super careful with Gabe S - easing him in from the bullpen to begin the season.

Should be a competitive series. Do y'all have indoor facilities or how do your guys prepare for the season during winter up there? Just wondering.

We have indoor facilities for when it is cold / snowy out, and an artificial turf field for those uncommon nice days.

I think it's safe to say, LB Jr. proved himself today...that's a solid stat line coming off TJ surgery...

After TJ surgery, as long as it was done correctly, pitchers have a stronger arm than prior. Have a ligament that has never thrown a pitch.

Y'all are catching us at a good time. 2 of our weekend starters may be out this weekend. Our ace appears to be injury prone and the other may not play due to an internal suspension. Hopefully one can play this weekend.

I know we’re young, and I know it’s ‘just baseball’, but man it get old having teams that are only good at one side of the ball. The Berry special.

RE: 2021 baseball
Rotation for the UConn weekend has been annouced:

Friday: Stanley 1-0 (6 IP), 13 K, 1 BB, .053 BA against
Saturday: Etheridge 0-0 (5.2 IP), 12 K, 0 BB, .105 BA against
Sunday: Powell (first app, preseason 1st team CUSA)

a few pros and cons that jump out after 4 games

Pros:
- pitching has been lights out with Stanley, Ethridge and Boyd
- defense has only made 2 errors and both were by CF Trimble
- batters are averaging 7 walks a game (moreso bad pitching by NSU as we only had 2 walks vs South Al)
- in opening weekend Montenegro was only batter/fielder of the 14 that played who wasn't a freshman or sophomore

Cons:
- batting avg is .181
- batters avg right at 9 Ks per game
- 2 of our more experienced starters (Lynch and McGillis) combined batting 2-23 (.087)
- our catchers (Stanley and Johnson) are combined 0-10 with 1 run scored
- Shepard who was preseason CUSA pitcher of year struggled in his 1 relief app
- Best who was going against Boyd as our possible #4 starter continued his struggles from last year's 4 starts
