Friday: Stanley 1-0 (6 IP), 13 K, 1 BB, .053 BA against
Saturday: Etheridge 0-0 (5.2 IP), 12 K, 0 BB, .105 BA against
Sunday: Powell (first app, preseason 1st team CUSA)

a few pros and cons that jump out after 4 games

Pros:
- pitching has been lights out with Stanley, Ethridge and Boyd
- defense has only made 2 errors and both were by CF Trimble
- batters are averaging 7 walks a game (moreso bad pitching by NSU as we only had 2 walks vs South Al)
- in opening weekend Montenegro was only batter/fielder of the 14 that played who wasn't a freshman or sophomore

Cons:
- batting avg is .181
- batters avg right at 9 Ks per game
- 2 of our more experienced starters (Lynch and McGillis) combined batting 2-23 (.087)
- our catchers (Stanley and Johnson) are combined 0-10 with 1 run scored
- Shepard who was preseason CUSA pitcher of year struggled in his 1 relief app

no clue how Boyd isn't the 3 guy....

I gave up on berry's dichotomy long ago...

Hopefully it becomes an issue as it will mean our pitchers are lights out but would love/hate to see who gets left out come CUSA play if Powell, Stanley, Ethridge and Boyd are on cue and then Shep gets fully healthy. Regardless its a good situation to be in with CUSA play consisting of 4 game series.

In years past it seems like we usually tee off on opponents Sunday pitching (#3 starter) so hopefully with it being 4 game series it will benefit our hitting even more this year on Sundays as it will be #4 going due to the Saturday DH.

Should be a competitive series. Do y'all have indoor facilities or how do your guys prepare for the season during winter up there? Just wondering.

We have indoor facilities for when it is cold / snowy out, and an artificial turf field for those uncommon nice days.

No need for indoor facilities this weekend in Hattiesburg. Temps for the weekend are 77 on Friday with 83/84 for Saturday/Sunday. Some PM thunderstorms on Sunday but with gametime on Sunday at 11 am there should be no weather issues. Looking forward to a great weekend of baseball against yall.

it's eerie how this is shaping up like my Cards....above avg. pitching with little/streaky run production...

Tough game for us yesterday, but well played by both sides. Walking the bottom of your order killed us.

For the most part y’all have outplayed us but we have found ways to get the W.

Friday’s difference was walks as UConn pitchers walked us 7 times while our pitchers had 1 walk. Saturday’s difference was LOB as UConn left 12 on while we left 5 on base. UConn has outhit us both days (10-6 and 14-8). USM goes for the sweep Sunday at 11:00 am our time.

We deserved the Friday loss for sure with the walks. Saturday may have been the most frustrating loss I can recall following college baseball.

Good series.

Everything was set-up for a sweep stank....but those of us who watch a lotta basbol know how hard it is to sweep a quality opponent...ESPECIALLY when all the stars seem aligned in your favor---but like I told some gung hoers yestiiddy, THIS IS WHEN YOU ALMOST ALWAYS LOSE!04-cheers

Hope all is well mein freund, I am enjoying retirement (who ME?04-rock04-rock)

RE: 2021 baseball
As i said prior to the season, our strength of schedule is garbage and we better start 20-5 if we want to make a regional.
Our pitching looks good, but it wouldn't against good teams. And our hitting is terrible and would be worse against good teams. This year is already over.

I only thought Storme Cooper was gone, Will McGillis just replaced him.

I am so over Scott Berry. He make bad teams awful and great teams mediocre. Always has and always will.

Our chance to change coaches was 2016, but then we had 2017 year where we blew our own regional. Berry won’t ever be released because his results are good enough for administration. And if we want to get really honest about it, administration probably isn’t confident that we have the money to find anyone as good as Berry with the recruiting connections he has.

Ha, that was exciting. We made some headlines from that game 1 too.

I still have one question: why does our schedule suck so badly? We played State 1 time this year, and no Ole Piss. WTH?

Its not CUSA either because Tech has an absolutely loaded schedule. They even play Ole Miss twice but we can't get them once? Someone dropped the ball and I just want to know who it was. I don't know who negotiates the schedule but if Berry is involved then I have my answer. Man was spending his Covid offseason eating free Wendy's per his contract instead of actually working.

RE: 2021 baseball
Looking ahead to this weekend's opponent Missouri St and they have had a unique schedule up to this point. Out of 4 possible weekend series they've only played one of those that involved 3 games. Their opening weekend at Arkansas St was cancelled due to weather, weekend #2 they won 2 of 3 from Central Arkansas, weekend 3 they played just 2 games (Saturday vs Tarleton St, Sunday vs Central Arkansas), while weekend 4 they played no games. On the flip side they've played on both Tuesday and Wednesday in 3 of the 4 weeks. They are scheduled to play Oral Roberts on Tuesday and then Kansas on Wednesday both at home before heading this way Thursday.

Appears we’re not going to be in too many slugfests this year. Eags win 2-1 vs Missouri St on Friday.

And our opponents/CUSA teams had some good wins Friday night that will help our RPI

UConn beat Saint Joseph (St Joe had a 20 RPI)
Jacksonville St beat Murray St (Murray was in top 100)
ULaLa beat TCU (TCU was #16 in polls)
FIU beat Wichita St
FAU beat USF
La Tech beat Tulane
