Sam Houston State just announced its 2021 schedule and it's pretty impressive. It could potentially be one of the toughest out of league schedules in the whole country.

Home series against Oklahoma State, UTSA and Little Rock, plus single games vs Texas A&M and Baylor at home. Road trips to Baylor, Texas and Rice. Then, neutral sites at two MLB parks (Globe Life/Texas State; Minute Maid Park/Rice, TCU & A&M). Absolutely loaded and that's with knowing that the Kats missed out on it's annual three-part series with Houston (home/away/neutral) for the Don Sanders Cup.

Presumably Oklahoma State and UTSA are on the road in '22 (probably 'bought' Little Rock) plus all the usual OOC matchups that are home-and-away (Rice, Baylor, A&M) on a regular basis including an anticipated home game against Texas in '22.

If you missed out on their (SHSU) head coach's interviews a few years back you should look it up. Dude is legit.

That's the former Sam Houston State baseball coach Matt Deggs; he's now at UL-Lafayette, taking over the job there when his mentor passed away during the year.

How many of those games, series will go to next year from the non WAC contests? Are the Arizona schools good about playing GCU annually? Presume Tulane bought y’all? What about home and homes with some of those coming your way this year?

Arizona and GCU have played 7 games since 2014
ASU is new to the GCU schedule

GCU generally has has Pac12 schools on the schedule both home and away

Oklahoma St and GCU have played 9 games since 2015

Pepperdine is a return trip

Tarleton vs. TCU and Texas A&M headline 2021 schedule.

Really like the Sac State and NoCo series as D1 measuring sticks

NoCo is trash and SacSt is one of the better WAC schools. You guys should have any trouble with NoCo.

From the message boards to other forms of social media, one of the great concerns of Sam Houston State fans circles around baseball. SHSU has had a pretty good baseball program as of late with five NCAA appearances since 2012 (eight if you go back to 2007) including an NCAA Super Regional a few years back.

While the WAC has great basketball compared to the Southland, baseball is not the same story. Would love to learn what folks on here think about WAC baseball, what are some of the perceived strengths (schools, facilities), the perceived weaknesses (how are OOC schedules?) and where we can grow together?

Also, who is excited about '21? What are your schedules looking like...?

WAC loses ChicagoSt Northern Colorado and CSUB baseball so it was going to be a net gain and then adding DSU and TSU their baseball is light years better than what WAC lost. Now adding T4 to the mix only makes it stronger.

WAC baseball top programs
NMSU 2 reg champs 1 WACT champ
GCU 4 reg champs 0 WACT champ
SacSt 2 reg champs 3 WACT champ

WAC trending up programs
CBU N/A
UTRGV 1 reg champ 0 WACT champ

WAC trending down programs
Seattle 1 reg champ 0 WACT champ
UVU 0 reg champ 1 WACT champ

Great breakdown and with Chi State and UNC gone the WAC is immediately stronger top to bottom. I consider NMSU the marquee program in the WAC with a few other programs nipping at their heels. I think CBU will be a dark horse in coming years. If I recall correctly, they would have won the WAC in their first year if they were eligible to do so.

Since there was only a partial 2020 season, here is a link to the amazing WACT run we had in 2019. We lost our first game and then ripped off 6 straight wins to take the tournament and make it to Regionals (where we eliminated UCSB). God what a hell of a run.

Here is our 2021 schedule. Christiansen usually lines up regional opponents for our weekday games. We are on a streak of 30+ win seasons since 2012.

John Smith Field got lights a few years ago as well as a resurfacing of the playing field. It's a decent facility that has a "green monster" feel to it with the parking structure in left. We need a press box and some better concession/bathroom facilities though. Overall I'd rate it a decent place to watch a game.

Fun fact: If you look closely at their logo, you can see ARPB spelled out in the lion's mane.

Hopefully he can help turn our program around. We have struggled in baseball since turning D1. Our new Head coach has a .500 record after two seasons, which is an improvement over the previous few years. But we have a ways to go.
