Parler
Parler got taken down because it was allowing people like this to increase their reach to others in order to fuel their insurrectionist fantasies:

... and I'm sure HUGE platforms like Twitter Facebook and Amazon have their share of nut jobs and lunatics. So are these organizations hypocrites? I really don't think it's that simple. A case might be able to be made that if you allow these companies to effectively destroy Parler then they can effectively destroy any small startup by the same means. And that would be illegal, not a violation of Free Speech but it illegal still.

From what I understand, some of the Trump camp are complaining that they've lost thousands of followers on FB/Twitter too, so I'm guessing anyone posting this kind of inflammatory BS is getting at least a time-out, if not a permanent shutoff of their ability to post.

This, as I see it at least, is about private companies refusing to do business with another company whose policies they disagree with. You're still free to create your own system and bulletin board that advocates the policies you agree with. Neither the government nor anyone else is preventing you or me from doing that.

It’s an anti-trust issue. It’s essentially illegal collusion by dominate market makers designed to limit completion.

If that's the real motivation then you would have to prove it in court with evidence.

Which would be easy to do by showing the the moment that occurred the top trending hashtag on Twitter was “hang Mike Pence”. Kathy Griffins severed Trump head might be worth tossing in as well....not to mention the many violent comments and uncensored filth Libs posts on Trumps Twitter. All you have to prove is they treated the enforcement of their terms of use differently for Parler—and that’s just not going to be very hard.

Just for argument's sake - if a private company favors one political position over another that's not illegal. Twitter or Facebook or Amazon can favor liberal posters and ban conservative posters if they want. That's not illegal censorship, what you really seem to be arguing, not "illegal collusion to dominate market."

A few things going on.

1. Anti-trust
2. Breach of contract
3. 230 Protection

You cant de-platform something just because you want to. It has to violate your terms & conditions AND you have to prove you deplatform every entity in a similar manner. Otherwise, this is a breach of contract.

The collusion between tech companies is blatant antitrust.

With 230 protection, you are no longer a "private company who can make decisions about what and what not to deplatform." Under 230, you are allowed to exist as a platform, but with no moderation capability. Censoring, suspending, and putting fake messages at the bottom of Trumps tweets are not allowed under 230 because you are MODERATING, which is not allowed under 230. Under 230, you are a platform, not a controller. You can be a controller if you want, but you wouldnt have 230 protection. Take your pick.

That's just a guess. Is Louis Farrakhan's inflammatory rhetoric still up? But the point I was making was that Facebook Amazon and Twitter are placeing a different standard on Parler than they are on themselves - hence the hypocrisy comment. Twitter and the others want to keep their status as mere "platforms" (for content) and not be responsible for third-party content ---- yet they turn around and treat Parler as if it's a publisher (responsible for the content) and not a mere platform.

It's quite telling that several members of the GOP appear to be more concerned about losing some followers on twitter than an armed, seditious, insurrection of congress that resulted in 6 lives lost so far.

The unequal application of TOS is a maybe. Yes they have done that. Does that get you a get out of jail free card?

The anti-trust is difficult but very serious.

Twitter should be permanently boycotted. Let that Satan get sued by his shareholders.

Amazon and Google are so pervasive, its more difficult.

You know how easy it is to go find facebook posts and tweets from those colluding during the riots over the last year?

I mean they actively coordinated communication as the riots were taking place.

And those people are still able to post on both platforms. No ban no timeout no nothing.... wonder why?(rhetorical)

The Chinese embassies Twitter account is still up despite the fact that they recently boasted about sterilizing Ugihur women. Louis Farrakhan's Twitter account is still up with his 300,000 plus followers. A long-standing anti-semite and racist. So I don't know what you mean by "dangerous rhetoric." I don't know what you mean by "plotting." But I'll say this - dangerous rhetoric to you may be something else is someone else. Just because you find someone else's statement ridiculous, or conspiratorial, or dangerous, isn't a reason, at least an ethical one, to ban that speech imo. If you mean by "plotting" some dude on the internet who has the current means to follow through on those threats then that's already illegal - whether it's on Parler, Facebook, or Twitter. Section 230 does not provide immunity to these platforms if they knowingly allow illegal activity. At least that's my understanding.

Section 230e1 (a platform knows about criminal conduct - no immunity)

That's what I'm seeing here.

Sure, anyone is "free" to go start the next Twitter or Parler or whatever, but fighting a oligopoly of multi-billion $$$ companies is most certainly a significant barrier to entry.

This seems very similar to Microsoft circa 1998 or whenever that was. IIRC, Other companies and people were busily developing software, browsers, OS' etc. and Microsoft was just as busy trying to crush them. Those they couldn't force out by buying them, they worked so that these other systems were incompatible with MS and therefor almost instantly obsolete. I wasn't nor have ever been in that kind of an industry, but that's how I recall it going down. This seems similar in that the end goal is the same, they're just using different tactics and excuses for doing so.

They are still more interested in keeping competition OUT, and favoring liberal politics at the same time, Parler was emerging as real competition. So the Masters of the Universe made a few calls and WaBamm!! Parler's shut down.

Time to break em up. Break em all up.

03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao

Sure they do. It just happens to be "their" nut jobs and lunatics". FFS, they allow the propaganda ministers and ayatollahs in Iran to rant about death to Americans and America, wiping the "Great Satan" from the earth and vaporizing Israel. The chinese to openly tweet and lie about everything they f$#^ing do. But the Trump is the real threat to America. Ummmm, k?

Or, was this ^^^ a sad attempt at humor?
