Whatever shakes out will likely give the G5 one team.

16 team
Model is the only fair way to go about it. But since it would include all 10 FBS champs it won’t happen.

And the P5 programs won't let it happen. Hell, they wouldn't even allow a 2 extra teams in this year because the SEC Commissioner opposed it. The Big 10 and SEC will always object to more teams so long as they have Ohio State and Alabama.

Don't make this complicated, go to 8, 5 P5 champs, 1 G5 Champ, 2 at-large, first round on-campus.
Only once in the history of the FCS playoffs did the winner come from outside the top 8. The disparity is even greater at the FBS level.

I agree. Since there is a bowl system in place we don’t need as expansive of a playoff. However, the Sun Belt needs a better bowl tie-in.

Top 8 in the playoffs and then the next 16 need to be seeded in the bowls. 9 plays 10, 11 plays 12, 13 plays 14 and so on, with changes made to prevent conference and duplicate matchups from the season. So if 9 had played 10, and 11 was in same conference as 9, 9 would play 12, and 10 would play 11.
So top 12 bowls would have top 24 matchups, after that, let conference tie ins seed the bowls. That also means if the G5 get 3 teams in top 24, you know your going to get a comparable bowl team to play. Keeps all the major bowls relevant with good matchups.
Now we can discuss what 12 bowls we consider the best 12.

I agree about seeding for the top games and then tie-ins for the non NYE and NY day bowls. However, what if the semi final playoff games didn't impact bowls though and were city-sponsored instead? They could act as a bowl game with the city entertaining the teams for a few days but the other bowls could still be played. That way Rose Bowl could maintain it's B1G/PAC-12 status and the rest be seeded. I know the Rose Bowl hates losing the conference ties every 3rd season even if it is only 1 game.
Example: 2021 College Football Playoff semifinals brought to you by the cities of Atlanta and Indianapolis while the National Championship is brought to you by San Antonio. The semis could even be played on Jan. 2nd or 3rd so that New Years Day & New Years Eve could promote their major bowl events, semi finals get their own day, and then they natty could be played on a Monday still around 10 days later.
