Gameday: MBB vs Akron
Another gameday has come. Akron -5.5 sounds like free money.

Starters: Montero, Groce, Lowder, McBride, Morgan

WTF. BTW, not to be confused with WFT.

Great steal after the made baked by Montero and then the And-1 by McBride (of course he missed the FT)

Gameday: MBB vs Akron
Am I the only one that didn't realize there was a game today. Only figured it out when I got a notification from the ESPN app.

Apathy.

Great. We’ll probably hear at least two stories about John Wooden.

Surprising, considering how we looked in our last game. Not watching, but it sounds like the zone is clicking if Akron is shooting 26% from 3 and have 10 turnovers. We are making our free throws too.

Playing defense with their feet instead of arms. Best effort I have seen this year on D.
The zone does give the opposition a lot of looks at threes but missed threes produce long rebounds, thus it is more important to be fast than tall to get the ball.

Groce with three bonehead fouls, the only real negative.

Doesn't even look the same team.

Active hands on defense forcing steals and were getting all kinds of blocks. Hitting all our shots. Akron doesn't look prepared for the zone, but still. 37-8 over the last 15 minutes to put us up 22. Wow.

I think going forward we should stick with starting the smaller lineups.
Like Hawkins on the,ESPN broadcast.

Small lineup has looked fantastic! Defense is suffocating them, and I can't believe this's the same team! Top 5 Murphy performances I've seen in 10 seasons!

Yeah this second half has been stunning. Making a good Akron team look like Siena Heights. They have no clue how to beat the zone, which is all guards and a forward playing center.

Back door cuts, patience with the ball...who are these guys? Not a Murphy team.

Hawkins does a nice job breaking it down from a coach's perspective.

Agreed, I thought he was really good. Very insightful. You can tell he’s coming from experience when he talks about how the zone frustrates teams. I hope he calls more games in the future.

Hawk never had a problem with X and O's, he just lost out on recruiting.

RE: Gameday: MBB vs Akron
Awesome win. We made it closer than it needed to be at the end with some good ol fashioned missed free throws, but all in all an excellent second half to beat a good team. And doing so with Ty Groce (and a sprinkle of DJ Ballard) as our big man.

Maybe we actually practiced offense this week?
