Retrospectively it seems all the arguments given for cancelling football season were all just hot air and not based in reality. Am I wrong, here?

Nope. The SEC/ACC/B12 and Nebraska were right, the B1G/PAC and FCS wrong.

Ohio State and Iowa too...
Quote:Johnson, along with the presidents of Iowa and Nebraska, were the only leaders to vote against postponement of fall sports. She said she drew on her experience as a former field hockey player at Stanford.

“I understand how painful and frustrating it is for players to have worked so hard to be at this place and this performance,” Johnson said on the program All Sides with Ann Fisher. “But I have to step back and say also that we need to put safety first.

“So both considerations (are important). Of course, we want to be safe, and at the Ohio State University I have full faith and confidence that we’ve created a program that does keep our players safe and would allow the ability to compete.

None. Zero. And the "sports" writers that continue to argue otherwise are too stubborn and foolish to consider otherwise.

I'm surprised no one created a thread by the NY Times declaring UConn National Champions because they sat out this season.

Will they hang a banner like other unofficial championships?

Well, football helped with a lot of people with not-so-strong mental states.

The MWC and MAC were blind followers. UConn found their out to not playing dumpster fire football.

Nope.

To go further, I'm honestly not sure ANY of the arguments for continued lockdowns have held any water.

Arguments by whom?

I always thought the wait and see approach was best. The 3-4 week delay was a good thing I thought.

UTEPs season was a disaster but at least they tried. Spring football sounds like a bad plan. I dont know how FCS will play seasons spring and fall. Maybe theyll move to spring permanently.

Postponement never meant cancel, there is a difference. It means DELAY.

It would have been a very long fall and early winter without football.

I just hope they don't cancel the college basketball season and NCAA tournament.

I’m not sure I’d say FCS was wrong. Leagues without TV revenue rely on the gate revenue and their FBS games, and with little to no fans allowed and most of the buy games cancelled they would have lost a lot of money trying to play a season.

Yes, that could be right.

But the plans to play spring football make no financial sense either. No fbs games for them and still no or very few fans.

Lets add the AAC, Sun Belt and CUSA for being right also., and MWC/MAC being wrong.

RE: So, did any of the arguments for cancelling football season hold any water?
There were certainly people who died as a result of people congregating to watch football, though we likely will never know how many. There are likely to be student athletes who have permanent cardiovascular or neurological damage due to Covid19 infections who wouldn't have if they had engaged in social distancing, but no way of knowing how many would have actually done so given with the ramshackle US approach to the epidemic that has made it a laughing stock around the world. It is likely there will be proportionally more in the SEC/ACC/B12 due to the tighter protocols followed by the Big Ten and PAC12.

But on the other hand, people who enjoy watching college football would have had less football to watch, which surely is a higher priority than life and health.

No. No there isn't.07-coffee3

And even if it were true more would be infected not being covid protocols and not in practice.
