MBB at UTEP
Early overreaction alert. We might look really bad against UTEP because they can actually defend.*

*And as these first 4 minutes are showing, we still cannot. UTEP shooting 6-7, 4-4 and have scored 16 points in 3:45.

UTEP is 5-6 from 3-pt range in first 4:30 of the game. Up 21 - 9. Ugh. They're going to score 150 at this rate.

RE: MBB at UTEP
UTEP has scored 21 points in almost exactly 5 minutes. They have missed 2 shots. They have gotten offensive rebounds off of both of those misses, and scored off of both of them.

21-9 UTEP, 14:57 left.

I like our offense. It looks better than other iterations. But it is absolutely not good enough every single night if we don't play defense.

RE: MBB at UTEP
Rice is executing way better than I thought it would on offense (1.50 PPP) and we're down 11. UTEP just registered its first empty offensive possession in the first 7 minutes of game time.

Honestly just a really good response. 7 minutes of scoring from UTEP and Rice goes into the under-12 TO only down 5 (26-21). Pretty balanced scoring so far.

Wow would have thought the Board would have called for Pera’s firing after the first 5 minutes...lol.

Defense turning back to mush. UTEP has made 7 of its last 8 and has stretched the lead back to 9.

RE: MBB at UTEP
We've scored 36 points vs. a strong defensive team with 2 minutes to play in the first half. Was really hoping we would be ahead or at least within 5...47-36 UTEP.

Some of it is hot shooting but the defense needs to step up here.

RE: MBB at UTEP
UTEP is the 211th ranked offense according to KenPom and they've scored...55 at the half. 58/63/100 splits. 1.77 PPP. The most they've scored against a D1 team this year is 77.

On the somewhat bright side, an Evee 3 at the half cuts the deficit to 11. That's manageable, and probably closer than it should be considering UTEP's scoring. To uconn's point, I would have gladly taken 44 points in the first half against UTEP. Never would have thought we'd be losing if we scored that many.

RE: MBB at UTEP
This is a weird game where it's been kinda close at points (Rice just cut it to 1 pt before UTEP extended the lead back to 7) but it hasn't *felt* close. Feels like if Rice wins we'll be stealing one.

69-62 UTEP.

RE: MBB at UTEP
Really not an acceptable defensive performance against a below-average UTEP offense. 1.62 PPP so far. 12 offensive rebounds leading to 18 points. *1* (!) TO for UTEP. Absolutely no chance to win a game in which you can't string together 3+ defensive stops.

76-62 UTEP and this one's a couple scores away from being over.

87-80 UTEP. Give the team credit, they're battling. Need a few stops in a row.*

*...and UTEP hits a 3 immediately

96-85 UTEP with 2:01 left. We just can't get stops. UTEP gets an offensive rebound after two missed FTs. Unbelievable.

RE: MBB at UTEP
101-89 UTEP. As the Brits like to say, pretty shambolic defensive performance. UTEP tops its season-high scoring total against D1 teams by 24. 1.55 PPP. 16 OREBs. Just 4 TOs. Pretty ruthless from them tonight. And just no way to win when you can't stop a team from scoring.

On the positive side, our offense scored 88 points against a good defense. Fiedler (apart from rebounding) was really good again (22 pts on 10/10 shooting with 7 assists). Evee (21 pts), Abercrombie (14 pts), and Havsa (9 pts, 6 ast) all were effective. First bad game from Olivari. Just 18 combined minutes from Moore, Clark, Poteat, and Sheffield isn't enough IMO when we're playing back-to-back games.

Every single game, every single year. No big man...again. We haven't had a big man since Brent Scott
