Randomly heard you on the radio the other day as I never listen to sports talk. You did a very good job and it was nice to hear your thoughts on UC. Hope you’re on the air more.

Agreed...always love hearing your segments or random bullpen shows when Mo doesn't feel like coming into work.

Much appreciated. Pretty much if Mo or Tony take a day off, I'm on the air. Can't really commit to full time radio these days, so that fill in role is perfect for me...

Any links to this? I've been browsing around and haven't seen that info specifically but there's a ton of threads it might be in. Heck they've even got a whole thread speculating on Ahmad Gardner entering the portal.
Hope they're as on top of it as the Michigan state boards.

Lol. No, this isn't like the MSU situation at all, but the false equivalency can reign in your mind if you'd like it to be.

And Hawkeye, its on Purdue's board that they're targeting Elston for DC and the safeties coach has been confirmed to Texas. Speculation on both ND's 247 and Rivals pages that Freeman would bring guys from UC with him (though obviously thats the same as us saying it here).

Yeah I'm familiar with the MSU safeties coach to Texas and Elston to Purdue stuff - in fact I think I've already posted it here probably more than once.

I was asking more about Freeman poaching assistants on the way out. Is this just poster speculation or are "insiders" saying it's in the works? I haven't seen anybody credible (and I use that word very loosely in this area) saying anything is actually in the works.

A neighbor who spends half of the year in Northern Michigan has an award hanging on his wall for being the Michigan State athletic donor of the year a few years back. Gets to go with the basketball team on their charter when they play over seas and got a seat when they played that game on the aircraft carrier. Connected guy. They were told internally CLF accepted and it would be announced the next day. Next day CLF had a change of heart. Caught everyone in East Lansing unprepared.

Not saying any of this didn't happen, but this seems to be becoming a "thing" these days. LSU "Insiders" are swearing the Freeman accepted the LSU job before catching his plane back. Also Fickell/MSU and Mick/UNLV as has been mentioned.

Slightly relatedly, it's kind of amazing how far Bob Diaco seems to have fallen from grace. He won the Broyles award at ND after leaving UC with BK. After flaming out as HC at UConn he's gone to Nebraska, Oklahoma, Louisiana Tech and Purdue for one shot seasons with each. Now Purdue has announced he's not returning. Despite our success with a previous DC fired by Purdue, Diaco doesn't seem to be on the radar at all these days.

Diaco rode Manti Teo to that award, then he had to actually coach again and ended up showing his true colors. He is just an awful coach.

Makes sense. Fake girlfriend. Fake coach.

Thank you Marcus...but I hope they give up 40 a game next year. Lol

Now who takes his place is really important.

best wishes and good luck to coach marcus freeman at Notre Dame. It is tough to compete with a university with unlimited funds. Just hope and pray that Coach Luke Fickell will have plenty of info on a coach to replace Coach Freeman. He did an unbelievable job with UC's Defense in just a few years.

As with everything Marcus did, very classy.

I have no love for ND but from a career management perspective it would appear to be a very good move. If successful there, I suspect he might be in succession for Kelly's job someday soon. That might actually prove beneficial to UC in the longer run if the ND job never comes open publicly but is filled internally by Freeman.

While we were celebrating a NY6 bowl bid, UC just set a new high water mark for retaining a successful head coach. Fickell staying has truly distinguished him in my mind and while we'll always live year to year with a head coach in G5 world, he's been loyal and a man of his word. We may just be a P5 invitation away from him staying here and building an unchallenged legacy.

In the absolute worst case, Fickell has re-established Cincinnati as a brand where up-and-coming coaches can have a lot of success, and his blueprint can be followed by a future coach of high integrity with local recruiting ties.
