Nah. Guys on the roster are committed to their teammates. Now we’ll probably lose some ‘22 guys.

Wouldn't be surprised if Derrick Shepard gets an ND offer soon. Maybe Melvin Jordan...this could kill all of the '22 momentum with defensive recruits.

Thank the Lord we had some great player returnee announcements to counter this one. Can you imagine Ridder, Sanders, et al., leaving on top of this. Hear that? Tractor tire deflating....

Notre Dame already recruits the Cincinnati area over us. We play them next season.

I hope he's paid well.

Notre Dame surely recruits Cincinnati over the years, but it's not really as excessive as many think these days. Their 2020 roster had 2 from Cincinnati - both OL and one was a 5th year senior (Kraemer and Correll). They had several more Ohio guys, but I think most if not all of the rest were from Cleveland or other faraway parts of the state.

That might pick up with Freeman, especially into Dayton, but there's still plenty of fish in the sea.

He was already a hot commodity before that game but the Cats played really well on the national stage and it cemented his status as the #1 coordinator to go after. A bit early to say this, but potentially at Notre Dame he can achieve the same level/impact as Clemson's Brent Venables. Kelly found another pot 'o gold for his program. As for us, who are viable DC replacements?

Guessing it’s going to be an in house battlefield promotion.

So we have a guy who has coached for two years (Scruggs), a guy who was terrible as a DC (Eliano), or another guy who has two years as a coach (Hitschler).

Or we go with Brian Mason.

You’re extremely warm with one of those.

Good catch. I was just scanning for Ohio. With Kraemer leaving, that means they'll have 2 Cinti area players next year. (Browsed their 2021 class and the closest I saw was a guy from Pickerington and one from Merrilville.)

Mason never crossed my mind. With all due respect, where is the defensive pedigree? He played running back in college. Chris Ash is making $800K at Texas and it sounds as if there is support for Sark to retain him. I do agree there will be plenty of interest. Fick has a lot of respect and connections within the coaching ranks. I have all the faith that he will make the right hire.

He is listed as coaching the "sniper" position at UC (think Jarell White). But besides that, this is probably the peak of it:

Quote:Mason came to UC after two years at Ohio State as a graduate assistant coach at Ohio State. He worked with current UC Head Coach Luke Fickell and the Buckeyes’ linebackers.

The only reason I knew about him was that my brother texted me about him during the CFP game. Just did not know he was from Cov Cath until I looked him up after your post about the other 2.

I mean, if I'm a Notre Dame fan I'd feel the same way as this guy.

If this is correct 4 years at 2.5mm a year. Lordy, crazy dinero. I think that's what the head coach at IU is making. LOL

I do wonder where Fickell stand with Mick Mickens. Not sure if he is coordinator material yet, but i guess we'll see in the coming days.

That basically forces the HC job to be a top 25 job now you'd think, which is effectively what he wanted. Good for him, that's a hell of a pay raise, still sucks that we will never rbe able to compete with he big boys that ways.

ND is opening the wallet which was shocking. We bowed out when Elko sweepstakes hit 2 million. Freeman got more than that (2.4-2.6?) and he will be hiring at least one replacement because our safety coach is off to Texas.

Great season by the way and I look forward to our game next year.

It will be interesting to watch. I believe Fickell is/was more instrumental in MF's success than many know.

The pressure is on to beat Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State. Those teams are the bar to win the CFP. Notre Dame needed an upgrade on Dee in both coaching and recruiting. They had the means and the will to pay the price to get it done. If I'm CMF, there is no hesitation and no looking back to take that kind of money for an assitant coaching gig at a program like Notre Dame.

I actually think their offense of late needs more work to get to that level versus their defense.

If that was the case he didn't save the Purdue coach's skin.

You definitely need balance but having the chance to assemble an elite defense to slow down those high powered offenses closes the gap. Look at what we were able to do to high powered offenses this season under our schemes and talented players. Notre Dame obviously felt it was worth $2.5M/year to improve that side of the ball.
