Looks like Smith stepped on a UTEP player and may have tweaked her ankle. Being checked out.

RE: WBB vs UTEP
Yes, it was too close for comfort, but UTEP is a solid squad. And a win is a win.

On the downside, we were badly outrebounded and we allowed a staggering 20 offensive boards by UTEP. And, again, far too many turnovers for a relatively veteran club. Finally, third consecutive poor game by the bench, save for Swayze, especially on defense.

On the positive side, it appears Schwartz has gotten over her early stuggles and had her second consecutive strong performance. Today's was one of her best all-around games ever (16 points, 6-11 FG, 3-4 3-pt, 3 boards, 5 assists). The 19 assists total was impressive, as well. The birthday girl (Nancy) had only 5 boards, but 15 points, 6 blocks and 3 assists in 29 minutes.

Schwartz and Wiggins each played 37 minutes. I hope they have enough in their tanks for tomorrow's rematch. UTEP had only one player at over 30 minutes.

It will be interesting to see if we improve in any of these areas tomorrow.

Rice missing an absurd number of good looks. 11-8 Rice but should be a double digit lead.

11-8 Rice at the end of the 1Q. Really awful shotmaking from Rice so far. Bunch of bunnies and wide open shots being missed.

RE: WBB vs UTEP
The passing on this team might still be the biggest weakness we have. Austin had a corner shooter standing wide open 5 feet away and either didn't see her or chose not to pass it to her.

And as I type this, Crosthwaite did the exact same thing. Shooter in the corner literally in her line of vision, no UTEP defender within 10 feet, and instead she heaves up a shot and doesn't hit rim.

Don't think that's the issue. Rice is top 15 in assists per game.
